Chairman Mao once said: "Hangzhou is my second hometown, and it is like getting home to Hangzhou."
Chairman Mao first came to Hangzhou in 1921, when " The First Congress of the Communist Party of China " was held in the French Concession in Shanghai and Nanhu, Jiaxing, Zhejiang. As a representative of the "First National Congress", Chairman Mao stayed in Hangzhou for a day before the meeting. Although it was not long, Hangzhou left a deep impression on Chairman Mao.

Chairman Mao and Wang Fang
After leaving Hangzhou, Chairman Mao continued to devote himself to the revolution and finally founded the new China after going through ups and downs. In 1953, Chairman Mao left Beijing for inspection and came to Changsha for the second time.
As the first Minister of Public Security of New China, Luo Ruiqing will accompany Chairman Mao out for time lag every time to protect Chairman Mao’s safety. This time he went to Changsha is no exception.
However, when Chairman Mao came to Hangzhou this time, when Luo Ruiqing met Wang Fang, the director of the Zhejiang Provincial Public Security Bureau, he suddenly had an idea and proposed to change Wang Fang's name.
Unexpectedly, Chairman Mao expressed his objection on the spot and said to Luo Ruiqing: " There has just been a grass growing on his head, and you will get rid of it. I don't agree! "
So, what kind of legendary experience does Wang Fang have? Why did Chairman Mao firmly disagree when Luo Ruiqing asked him to change his name?

Wang Fang
Wang Fang's revolutionary experience
Wang Fang's original name was not Wang Fang, but Wang Chunfang, born in Tai'an, Shandong in 1920. Although Wang Chunfang's parents were farmers, they valued their son's study very much and saved money to support their son's schooling.
Wang Chunfang is also very successful and has excellent academic performance. In 1937, at the age of 17, he graduated from high school and stayed at school as a substitute teacher. If this momentum continues, Wang Chunfang will become an excellent teacher. However, before he could recognize all the classmates in the class, Anti-Japanese War broke out in full swing. After the Japanese occupied , Peking , they headed south, and the entire Shandong area fell.
Wang Chunfang was exposed to progressive ideas in her early years. The iron hooves of the Japanese army trampled on him in his hometown, inspiring him to defend his country's revolutionary seeds. In the spring of 1938, he resolutely quit his job as a teacher and took 12 fellow villagers to join the Anti-Japanese Guerrillas.
After joining the revolution, Wang Chunfang removed the word "Chun" in his name and changed his name to Wang Fang. Later, Wang Fang recalled: " I participated in the revolution and was ready to sacrifice. No matter how difficult the conditions were or how dangerous the struggle environment was, I would consciously contribute everything to the revolution and leave "fang" to the world ."

in the army was progressing very quickly. In April 1938, he gloriously joined the Communist Party of China and became the company commander in less than half a year. In the autumn of 1938, Shandong Column of the Eighth Route Army was established, and Wang Gang was transferred to the Fourth Detachment to serve as the head of the Anti-Terror Section.
The main task Wang Fang is to lead the soldiers deep into the enemy's back and eliminate Japanese and puppet army officers and traitors. He completed the task of eliminating traitors many times, which made the Japanese and puppet troops in central Shandong frightened and did not dare to go out alone.
After the victory of the Anti-Japanese War, Wang Fang's work changed from "assassination" to "defense". He served as Minister of the Security Department of the Central Military Region of Shandong and Minister of the Security Department of the 3rd 7th Corps of the People's Liberation Army, and made military achievements in major battles such as Huaihai Battle and Crossing the River Battle.
After the founding of New China, Wang Fang continued to engage in security work, stayed in Hangzhou, and served as director of the Municipal Public Security Bureau and director of the Zhejiang Provincial Public Security Department.

Luo Ruiqing proposed to change his name. Chairman Mao: I don’t agree with
Wang Fang. This name sounds like a lesbian. He doesn’t care, but the Minister of Public Security Luo Ruiqing noticed it.
It was in 1953. On the 26th of the 12th Fish, Chairman Mao celebrated his 60th birthday with a bowl of clear soup noodles. On the second day of his birthday, Chairman Mao and his group arrived in Hangzhou on a special train, preparing to live in Hangzhou for a while and draft the first constitution of the New China.
Before Chairman Mao arrived, Wang Fang, in accordance with the instructions of the Zhejiang Provincial Party Committee, unified the guards and reception work of Chairman Mao and his group to protect Chairman Mao’s safety in close proximity. On December 30, on the eve of New Year's Day, the Zhejiang Provincial Party Committee considered that the Chairman's 60th birthday was really frugal, so it proposed to invite Chairman Mao to a meal. Chairman Mao understood everyone’s intentions and was difficult to refuse, so he happily went to the appointment.
On the evening of December 30, the banquet began. Wang Fang had the honor to sit at the same table with Chairman Mao and Luo Ruiqing for dinner. The atmosphere at the scene was very warm, and the comrades took turns to toasting Chairman Mao. Although Chairman Mao rarely drank, he was very excited that day and drank several times in a row.

When the banquet was about to end, Chairman Mao saw that there were four glasses of wine on the dinner table, so he smiled and said to Wang Fang: " Director Wang, you should drink the remaining wine! Don't waste !"
Wang Fang didn't drag on it, but got up and picked up the wine glass, and drank it all in one go. Seeing that he was so generous, everyone applauded him, and Chairman Mao also praised him: "Good alcohol! I am worthy of being a native of Wu Song !"
After dinner, everyone did not disperse immediately, but gathered around Chairman Mao and chatted about gossip. At this time, Luo Ruiqing suddenly thought of something and pointed at Wang Fang and said, " Comrade Wang Fang, you are a big man from Shandong, why do you look like a lesbian? You should change it! "
When Luo Ruiqing's idea at that time, Chairman Mao's inspection in Hangzhou had to be reported and could be seen at home and abroad. If foreigners see the name "Wang Fang" and think they are a lesbian, they will inevitably have bad effects.

Wang Fang did not understand Luo Ruiqing's deep meaning, but still said generously: " is OK! My name is easy to change. Remove the grass word "fang" and change the name Wang Fang is very good. ."
However, Wang Fang continued to say that his appointment letter was signed by Premier Zhou. If you want to change the name, you must obtain the consent of Premier Zhou. After saying that, he looked at the direct leader Yang Shangkun beside him, and Yang Shangkun nodded and agreed.
But at this moment, Chairman Mao said, " You have discussed it, but I want to object! "
Chairman Mao pointed to Wang Fang and said, " Your Shandong greening is so bad, there are barren mountains and ridges everywhere, let alone trees, some places don't even grow grass. You Wang Fang's head has just grown a grass, and you are going to pull it out now. I firmly disagree! When the Shandong greening is ready, I will agree to change your name! "
Hearing this, everyone present laughed, and Luo Ruiqing laughed so much that he never suggested that Wang Fang change his name again.

accompanied Chairman Mao and went deep into the grassroots inspection
Just after New Year's Day in 1954, it was a rare heavy snow in Hangzhou, and the outside was covered with silver. Chairman Mao liked snow very much, so Yu called Wang Fang over and said to him, "Go, go for a ride outside!"
Wang Fang thought that the ride Chairman Mao said was really a ride, so he hurriedly prepared the car and drove the group to set off. But Chairman Mao neither went to West Lake to see the broken bridge and snow, nor did he go to Leifeng Pagoda to enjoy the scenery, but asked the driver to drive out of Hangzhou and head towards Xindeng County.
Along the way, Chairman Mao learned about the situation of running a rural cooperative in Zhejiang to Wang Fang, who was sitting in the co-pilot, and wanted to know the true thoughts of the people in Zhejiang about the rural cooperative. Wang Fang then suddenly realized: It turned out that Chairman Mao had a fake ride, but in fact he went deep into the countryside to "secret private visits"!
Chairman Mao and his party came to Xindeng County and walked into the home of a farmer named Wang Guanlin. Chairman Mao shook hands with Wang Guanlin cordially and asked about his family and the situation in the village. After learning that the villagers welcomed the rural cooperative, Chairman Mao was very pleased and nodded and said, " is better to organize! "
A few days later, Wang Fang accompanied Chairman Mao to the North Peak . Before leaving, for the safety of Chairman Mao, Wang Fang not only evacuated the people who climbed the mountain, but also required the people living along the way not to go out. During the mountaineering, Chairman Mao discovered this abnormality, but did not say much, but was waiting for an opportunity.

It was already evening after climbing the northern peak, and Wang Fang protected Chairman Mao to go down the mountain together. On the way down the mountain, the Chairman suddenly asked to go to the nearby farmers to take a look, but when everyone came to the door of a farmer, they found that the door was closed and there was no smoke rising from the chimney. Chairman Mao thought something and was ready to speak.
At this moment, a rooster in the farmer's chicken coop suddenly cried a few times and walked out of the chicken coop with a swagger. Breaking the temporary calm. Chairman Mao smiled after seeing this and said to Wang Fang meaningfully: "Director Wang, you can control the masses, but you can't control this big rooster! It thinks no one is coming to welcome us, and it is here to support us!"
Wang Fang immediately heard the meaning of the Chairman's words and quickly apologized, saying that he had made a poor arrangement and would definitely make a deep review.
Chairman Mao knew that this arrangement was Wang Fang's responsibility, and he did not blame him, but he clearly told him: "We Communists are who always stand with the people!"

will never change his name, and he will be the vice-national rank
1954 After New Year's Day, Wang Fang accompanied Chairman Mao to Moganshan again. Although it had just snowed heavily, Mogan Mountains were lush and full of vitality.
When climbing the mountain, Chairman Mao remembered the incident of asking Wang Fang to change his name that night. The Chairman pointed to the distance and said, " Look how good the greening of Moganshan is! Half of your Shandong can be like Moganshan, so I agree to change your name! "
After that, Wang Fang served as vice governor and secretary of the provincial party committee, and was later transferred to Beijing to serve as Minister of Public Security. In 1988, he served as State Councilor and reached the vice-national level.
Wang Fang's position is constantly being transferred, he is busy with work, and rarely goes to his hometown in Shandong, and he does not know the progress of the greening project in his hometown. Therefore, Wang Fang has never changed his name. He said: " Chairman Mao did not agree to change me, so I will not change it. Greening is a road that has no end. Only when you do it better and better, and there is no time to be truly satisfied with ."
In 2009, Wang Fang died of illness in Hangzhou at the age of 89.
