Zheng Banqiao, Kangxi scholar, Yongzheng juren, Qianlong Jinshi, the first of the " Yangzhou Eight Eccentrics ". His poetry, calligraphy and painting styles are unique and independent. He is good at painting orchids, chrysanthemums, pine, bamboo, stone and other plants, and is especially famous for his " Banqiao Bamboo ". After the Jinshi period in the first year of Qianlong, he served as a county magistrate in Henan and Shandong. He was an honest official, compassionate with the sufferings of the people, and had good governance. Later, he angered his superiors because he asked for the hungry people, and then resigned from his post as an ill, and returned to Yangzhou to sell paintings.
Zheng Banqiao's marriage is quite unique and quite happy. When he was a scholar in his early years, he was poor and lived in Yangzhou by selling calligraphy and paintings. One day, he saw a couplet on the door of a wealthy household. It was a poem he wrote. He knocked on the door and explained his identity and asked the reason for it. Unexpectedly, the head of the household said that his daughter loved poetry and paintings, and immediately betrothed his daughter to marry him. Banqiao got this good wife and he was lucky and passed away. After resigning from office for some reason, he returned to Yangzhou to sell paintings. Due to his reputation, the price of paintings soared. He lived a prosperous life and had a harmonious couple. He died at the age of 73.
When he was the magistrate of Shandong, he once presented a very famous short poem to the governor. Later generations considered him to be his ethical declaration of official politics:
lying in the yamen and listening to Xiaoxiaozhu, it is suspected that it is the suffering of the people;
Some Xiaowu Caozhou County officials, each branch and leaf are in charge of the feelings.
