On the 19th, the First Plenary Session of the 14th Central Committee of the Communist Party of China elected Jiang Zemin, Li Peng, Qiao Shi, Li Ruihuan, Zhu Rongji, Liu Huaqing and Hu Jintao as members of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee, Jiang Zemin as General Secretary of the Central Committee, and decided that Jiang Zemin was the Chairman of the Central Military Commission and approved Wei Jian as the Secretary of the Central Commission for Discipline Inspection.
