During his tenure in Nanjing, Gu Huan performed well and rehabilitated many false and wrong cases. In April of the 17th year of Jiajing, Gu Huan was transferred to the chief officer of the grain transport and went to the garage 1 Huai'an Prefecture to guard.

Gu Huan considered this situation and quickly submitted a memorial to the court to request the tax reduction of these people, or allow them to pay with a discount. Emperor Jiajing agreed, which made the local military and civilians feel quite convenient for it.
Later, Gu Huan put forward seven reform opinions based on the canal transportation, all of which were supported by Emperor Jiajing. However, he also offended many people because of his strong rectification of the canal transportation system. These people began to spread rumors widely, and later they were directly impeached by the King of the Inspector. Emperor Jiajing conducted a detailed investigation into this and finally believed that Wang Jiao's impeachment was false, so he continued to reuse Gu Huan.
In July of the 29th year of Jiajing, a serious civil strife occurred in Annan . Emperor Jiajing immediately ordered Gu Huan to hang his seal as the general officer of Guangdong and Guangxi. At that time, there were many people in the court who suggested that Annan should be completely conquered during the civil strife in the country. But in response to this, Gu Huan raised an objection. He believed that as long as the expelled Prince of Annan was appointed as the commander-in-chief of Annan, Annan could surrender without using force to use force. The situation in Annan did gradually settle down.
Gu Huan served as the chief officer of the Huaian Prefecture four times. During this period, he successfully resisted the harassment of Japanese pirates many times and achieved the protection of the country and the people. After the Gengxu change broke out, the capital was greatly shocked. Emperor Jiajing quickly found Gu Huan and asked him to govern the Rongzheng in the Beijing camp, and changed the 12th Regiment Battalion into three major camps, and combined the three major camps into the Rong government, which significantly strengthened the defense force of the capital.
Gu Huan finally died in December 2, Wanli , at the age of 79!
