- [Preface]
In 1953, He Zizhen received a news that made her happy: her child Mao Anyong was found.
Mao Anyong is the second child of He Zizhen and Chairman Mao. He was born in 1932 and his nickname is Maomao. The revolution was in full swing at that time. In 1934, the Red Army began the Long March of . He Zizhen had no choice but to temporarily hand over the child to Mao Zedong's younger brother Mao Zetan.
originally thought that the mother and son were just separated for the time being, but unexpectedly, Mao Zetan died heroically and Mao Anyong's whereabouts became a mystery... He Zizhen once thought that he would never see Mao Anyong again, so when he learned that Mao Anyong was found, He Zizhen was so excited that he would be.
Mao Anyong looks very similar to Chairman Mao. He had basically determined that the child was Chairman Mao’s son, but not long before He Zizhen and his son were about to recognize each other, a Nanjing woman suddenly came, which made Chairman Mao change his idea of wanting to recognize this child. He Zizhen and his son were unable to recognize each other in the end.
What's going on? Why doesn't Chairman Mao allow him to recognize each other? What is the origin of that Nanjing woman? What is hidden behind this?

- [Conclusion]
Chairman Mao had a total of ten children, but in those glorious years, one child died on the battlefield for the revolutionary cause, two children died prematurely, and four children lost contact one after another. The child had an accident, which brought great grief to Chairman Mao.
After the victory of the revolution, Chairman Mao also sent someone to find the four missing children, but the clues were slim. How easy was to find a needle in a haystack? Among these four children, the only one who had hope to live was Mao Anyong, who was left in the Central Soviet Area at that time.
Mao Anyong was the second child of Chairman Mao and He Zizhen, and the only child among the six children born by He Zizhen, who grew up next to them, so Mao Zedong loved this child very much at that time. When Mao Anhong was born, He Zizhen suffered from malaria . For her safety reasons, the doctor did not recommend her breastfeeding her child, so Mao Zedong found a nurse for Mao Anhong at that time. The nurse is from Jiangxi. Jiangxi people are used to calling the child Maomao. As the nurse calls her too much, "Maomao" becomes Mao Anyong's nickname.
He Zizhen was hospitalized at that time. Mao Zedong often went to see her. Every time he went there, he would hug Xiao Maomao and play with him to make him happy. If the child was about to go to bed, Mao Zedong would put the child next to He Zizhen and quietly watch them mother and son.
The days of quiet years seem particularly precious in the war years.
Because their parents are around, Xiao Maomao has a very happy childhood. Mao Zedong would carry him out to play with him without any trouble. When he was writing, Xiao Maomao was beside him and shouted softly, "Dad", which was very fond of Mao Zedong.
Once, Mao Zedong carried Xiao Maomao out to play. When others saw him, they said that the child's eyebrows looked very similar to him, and he would definitely be as promising as him in the future. Mao Zedong smiled and said, "He is promising than me. I am a Mao, and he has one more hair than me."
Every time Mao Zedong went out, he would always see Xiao Maomao waiting for him at the door. As soon as Mao Zedong came back, Xiao Maomao would sway into Mao Zedong's arms. Because He Zizhen often said that she would wait for Mao Zedong to come back to have dinner together, Xiao Maomao also learned it. Sometimes even when she was hungry, she would stubbornly say, "I'm not hungry, I'm going to wait for my father to eat together."
Xiao Maomao grew to three years old under the careful care of Mao Zedong and He Zizhen.
Due to the failure of the fifth anti-"encirclement and suppression" in 1934, the Red Army was forced to start the Long March. Because it was inconvenient to take care of children, many Red Army soldiers fostered their children at the homes of the people at that time, and Mao Zedong and He Zizhen were no exception.
He Zizhen was reluctant to leave Xiao Maomao alone, but due to the current situation, she had no choice.
At night, after He Zizhen coaxed Xiao Maomao to sleep, she cut her military uniform open in the dim light, and then sewed the cotton borrowed from her neighbor's house during the day to make a cotton coat. This needle and thread are all the love of He Zizhen's Xiao Maomao, and it is also the only warmth she can leave to Xiao Maomao.
Before leaving, He Zizhen reluctantly handed the child over to Mao Zetan. The moment Mao Zetan hugged the child, He Zizhen felt sad and her eyes turned red in an instant. In order not to lose her composure, she turned her head cruelly and stopped looking at the children in Mao Zetan's arms.
Mao Zetan also understood his sister-in-law's difficulties and looked at his wife He Yi. He Yi is He Zizhen's younger sister. She hugged He Zizhen and said that she would definitely take good care of the child so that she would not have to worry. When the revolution was successful, the mother and son would be reunited.
He Zizhen could only comfort herself in this way. She handed over the cotton coat she sewn for the child to He Yi. After He Yi put it away properly, He Zizhen and Mao Zedong left Ruijin .
Later, the enemy attacked Ruijin and Central Soviet Area. In order to protect Mao Anyong, Mao Zetan temporarily placed him in the home of a fellow villager. He thought he would come to pick him up again in the future, but Mao Zetan died heroically in a battle, and Mao Anyong's whereabouts were unknown from then on.
Although Mao Zetan has passed away, there is still someone who has never given up looking for Mao Anhong, that is He Yi.
Mao Anhong has always been a knot in He Yi's heart. When her sister He Zizhen handed the child over the years, the child is gone. Seeing He Zizhen often talk about her son, she felt very uncomfortable, so she has been looking for Mao Anhong over the years.
The trouble is that many Red Army soldiers put their children at the homes of fellow villagers at the beginning, and it was even more difficult to find them. Until the eve of liberation, He Yi found a child who seemed to be Mao Anyong. She hurried to find Mao Zedong and said:
"Mao Anyong lost in Jiangxi has been found!"
Mao Zedong was very happy and asked about the specific situation. He Yi described the child's appearance characteristics. Mao Zedong felt that it was not very similar to Mao Anyong in his impression. Later, He Yi talked about the time and place of the family's adoption of the child, and it was not even in line with it. He Yi then realized that the child was not Mao Anyong.
But He Yi did not give up. She later went to Ji'an, Jiangxi, wanting to go there to find clues. Unfortunately, He Yi was accidentally in a car accident on the way to the scene and died on the spot.
When Mao Zedong learned about it, he was extremely sad and said he should not look for it again and let the child stay among the people.
But He Zizhen didn't want to give up so easily. In 1953, she wrote a letter to Shao Shiping, the governor of Jiangxi Province, telling him that he had left a child in Ruijin, named Xiao Maomao, but later disappeared. Now Si'er is eager to find him.
Jiangxi Provincial Government was entrusted by He Zizhen and decided to find the child. He also sent a cadre Wang Jiazhen to form a special task force to search and search among the children left over from the Red Army.
Hard work pays off, and Wang Jiazhen finally found a couple named Zhu Shengtai and Huang Yueying. They adopted a child in October 1934. At that time, in order to cover up the child's identity, the couple named the child "Zhu Daolai".
The other Huang Yueying and his wife don’t know, but they knew the age of the child when they adopted him.
Wang Jiazhen saw that it matched Mao Anyong's age, and Mao Zetan died in 1935, and the time when Huang Yueying and his wife adopted the child was also reasonable. The Jiangxi Provincial Government felt that Zhu Daolai was most likely the child of Chairman Mao and He Zizhen, so he immediately sent the boy's photos and related information to the Organization Department of the CPC Central Committee, and the Organization Department of the CPC Central Committee transferred it to He Zizhen.
After seeing the photos and materials, He Zizhen cried with joy and said to the Organization Department of the Central Committee: "From the materials, Zhu Daolai really looks like my little Mao." In order to further confirm, He Zizhen begs the organization to approve Zhu Daolai and his adoptive mother to come to Shanghai. The
organization agreed. Not long after, Wang Jiazhen from the Jiangxi Provincial Government brought Huang Yueying and Zhu Daolai to Shanghai. He Zizhen looked at Zhu Daolai carefully. After a while, He Zizhen couldn't help but burst into tears and said tremblingly: "Little Maomao... This is my Maomao."
Huang Yueying took out the cotton jacket and handed it to He Zizhen. The scene of the mother and son separation seemed to be close to her. He Zizhen could no longer control her tears. She hugged Zhu Daolai tightly in her arms, crying in tears with tears.
The mother and son have been separated for 19 years and are now having a difficult time reuniting. Everyone present was moved and everyone was red-eyed to congratulate them on their mother and son.
Later, He Zizhen took Zhu Daolai to check his body. The results showed that Zhu Daolai's blood type is the same as He Zizhen, so He Zizhen confirmed that this is her child even more.
Zhu Daolai's materials were sent to Beijing. When Liu Shaoqi and Zhou Enlai saw the photos of Zhu Daolai, they both said that they looked very similar to Chairman Mao when they were young. After Chairman Mao took the photos, although he was not sure that this was Mao Anyong, he still said: "This child looks very much like Mao Zetan when he was young!"
Zhu Daolai's identity was almost confirmed at this time. As long as Chairman Mao nodded, He Zizhen could recognize Zhu Daolai, and the mother and son could be reunited. But fate is a mess, and unexpectedly...
When everyone thought that it was inevitable for Zhu Daolai to recognize his ancestors, who knew that at this moment, East China Bureau received a letter from a Nanjing woman saying that Zhu Daolai was her child. This woman is Zhu Yueqian, the widow of Huo Buqing .
Huo Buqing is a student of the fourth session of the Whampoa Military Academy, and is also a Communist Party member. He has made outstanding contributions to the cause of the party. Premier Zhou Enlai praised him, Huo Kunyong and Huo Liru as the "Three Heroes of the Huo Family". In 1933, Huo Buqing died of illness in Fujian.
Zhu Yueqian called Zhu Daolai the child of her and Huo Buqing. At that time, Huo Buqing unfortunately passed away, and only the mother and son were left to depend on each other. In the end, he had to separate from the child in the war.
It is said that Zhu Yueqian picked Zhu Daolai up long before He Zizhen saw Zhu Daolai.
He Zizhen and Zhu Yueqian both have special revolutionary backgrounds. The East China Bureau did not dare to be careless and immediately sent Zhao Shangzhi, the Director of the General Office, to deal with the matter himself. Zhao Shangzhi has rich work experience and is smart and capable. He first learned about Zhu Daolai's information and then set off for Shanghai.
There is a small foreign building on Liyang Road, Shanghai. This small foreign building has not been so lively for a long time. This is He Zizhen's home. Huang Yueying and Zhu Daolai have lived here these days. A long-lost smile appeared on He Zizhen's face. He Zizhen treated Huang Yueying like her own sister, and treated her very enthusiastically, and told her about the story of having to leave her beloved son.
Zhu Daolai was not taken by Huang Yueying from He Zizhen, so she didn't know the previous twists and turns. She also told He Zizhen many interesting things about Zhu Daolai's growth, and He Zizhen also listened with relish.
After Zhao Shangzhi came to Shanghai, he first found Huang Yueying and asked her who this child belonged to. Huang Yueying answered without hesitation that it was Chairman Mao.
This made Zhao Shangzhi feel a little embarrassed. He gave Zhu Yueqian's evidence to Huang Yueying, but Huang Yueying always insisted that this was Chairman Mao's child. Zhao Shangzhi later went to ask Zhu Daolai, but he was still a child when he was adopted, so naturally he couldn't ask anything.
Since both mothers were unwilling to retreat, Zhao Shangzhi had to go to Jiangxi Governor Shao Shiping for help.
Wang Jiazhen, who was responsible for finding Chairman Mao’s children, was ordered to send all the information of Zhu Daolai to the East China Bureau. Almost all the information proved that Zhu Daolai was Chairman Mao’s child, and even a joint signature of the Ruijin people confirmed that Zhu Daolai was He Zizhen’s child.
There are also people saying that Zhu Shengtai's family also has a cotton jacket sewn by He Zizhen for Mao Anyong. How could Zhu Daolai not Chairman Mao's child? Zhao Shangzhi was helpless and had to report it to the Central Committee and let the Organization Department of the Central Committee solve the problem.
The Organization Department of the CPC Central Committee asked Zhao Shangzhi to bring Zhu Daolai, Huang Yueying and Wang Jiazhen to Beijing. The Organization Department of the CPC Central Committee warmly welcomed Huang Yueying and asked them to live here with peace of mind first.
After Zhu Dao came to Beijing, many comrades came to visit him, including Deng Yingchao, Shuai Mengqi, Qian Xijun and other "mothers". They were very concerned about Zhu Daolai's life and took care of him meticulously, which made Zhu Daolai both shy and moved.
Not long afterwards, Zhu Yueqian also came to Beijing. She insisted that Zhu Daolai was her child and wanted to take him back. The Organization Department of the Central Committee was immediately embarrassed and had to report the matter to Zhou Enlai, who told Chairman Mao about it.
Chairman Mao thought about it over and over again, and finally thought of a compromise solution: "No matter who your child is, he is a descendant of the revolution, so just hand him over to the organization and the people."
So, the Organization Department of the CPC Central Committee decided that Zhu Daolai would neither return to Nanjing nor Shanghai, but stay in Beijing, and would be taken care of by Shuai Mengqi, Deputy Minister of the Organization Department of the CPC Central Committee. Zhuo Yueqian and He Zizhen could also visit him from time to time.
The heroic revolutionary women such as Shuai Mengqi and Deng Yingchao adopted many orphans of martyrs and revolutionary descendants at the homes, so Zhu Daolai was the best choice at that time.
After staying in Beijing for a while, Huang Yueying had to go home. The Organization Department of the CPC Central Committee repeatedly thanked Huang Yueying for her care for Zhu Daolai over the years. During this period, she also treated Huang Yueying with the courtesy of the VIP. When Zhu Daolai learned that Huang Yueying was leaving, she said goodbye to Huang Yueying with tears in her eyes, saying that if she had the chance in the future, she would definitely go back to see her. Both of them cried when they parted.
Zhu Daolai, who stayed in Beijing, was arranged to go to Beijing Normal University South No. 2 Affiliated High School. There are many children of martyrs and revolutionary descendants here. Zhu Daolai knew that he was not as smart as them, so he worked very hard when studying. In the end, he had excellent grades in every school. He also passed the Peking University and was assigned to work in a national defense scientific research unit after graduation.
Zhu Daolai won the respect of everyone through his own efforts. What was waiting for him should be a bright future. Unfortunately, in November 1971, Zhu Daolai was diagnosed with advanced liver cancer and died the next month. He was only 38 years old.
The young Zhu Daolai passed away like this, and whether he was He Zizhen's child or Zhu Yueqian's child has become an unsolved mystery...
Although Zhu Daolai passed away early, the last period of his life was happy. He received the best education, with more people's care, and his life has been greatly improved.
Chairman Mao is right. No matter whose child he is, he will eventually be a descendant of the revolution. No matter where he is, he has a very glorious family background. Many Red Army soldiers left their children for the revolution, and many of them eventually lost their traces. Zhu Daolai was very lucky to be found.
The revolutionary predecessors sacrificed their families for everyone. It is precisely because of their selfless dedication that today's beautiful China has been created. Pay tribute to all revolutionary predecessors and their children, and hope that their descendants can have a happy life no matter where they are!
