When I was a teenager, I listened to the glorious traditional lessons Red Army veterans told
My boyhood was in Spent in my hometown Huaxian County, Shaanxi Province. When I was in the fifth or sixth grade of elementary school, I went to school in Chengguan Primary School, Huaxian County.
I remember one day in September 1965, the students in our school suddenly became excited because everyone learned that a female Red Army soldier was going to teach us a glorious traditional education class.
At about 3 o'clock in the afternoon, our classes lined up and came to the school playground neatly. At this time, accompanied by Principal Hou Weizhou, a female soldier in military uniform walked vigorously to the podium. Principal Hou introduced: "This female soldier was once a Red Army soldier. Her name is Yan Fenglou. You can call her Mama Yan. Mama Yan joined the army in the 1930s and she made contributions to the revolution in the People's Army."
A photo of Yan’s mother in military uniform
With everyone’s warm applause, I looked up and saw that Yan’s mother was about forty years old, with a fat face and energetic eyes. She was dressed in a faded military uniform. Under the sunlight, she looked It further shows the beauty of her image as a female soldier.
As soon as Yan’s mother opened her chat box, she told us about the heroic feats of the Red Army climbing snow-capped mountains and crossing grasslands. The Red Army soldiers traveled 25,000 miles all on their own two legs. We also have to climb mountains and cross swamps and mire. The clothes are thin, snow and rain invade the clothes; when there is no food to eat, they eat chaffy vegetables and leather belts. After achieving complete victory in the Long March , we successfully arrived in northern Shaanxi. Yan’s mother also listed some touching stories from the Red Army’s Long March, which made us feel admiration.
Mama Yan specifically talked about how during the Anti-Japanese War, the Eighth Route Army soldiers rushed to the front line to fight the Japanese invaders. Yan’s mother said that many of these things were personally participated in and experienced by her and her comrades. I felt at that time that the female warrior in front of us was a warrior and a hero!
Mother Yan also said that our party is for the people. They sacrificed their lives and suffered unforeseen sufferings in the world, just to overthrow the old system of people cannibalizing and exploiting people, so that everyone can live a happy life.
Finally, Yan’s mother encouraged us to work hard to learn cultural knowledge, learn scientific knowledge, and take over the revolutionary class when we grow up.
A 40-minute lecture on "Glorious Tradition" deeply attracted us. Many days after class, the content of Yan's mother's lecture and the tall image of Yan's mother still appeared in my mind. I thought a lot...
When I was young, I became an off-campus counselor in the military station
972 In December of that year, I joined the army from my hometown Huaxian County and joined the Xinjiang Army and became a glorious PLA soldier.
In the early 1970s, the army's activities to learn from Lei Feng were carried out in depth. In the army, it has become a common practice to learn from Lei Feng as a comrade and to do good things for the people. What good things could I do for everyone at that time? I participated in the shoe box mending activity for my comrades in arms, and participated in the firewood collecting activity for Uncle Qiao, a martyr in the camp on Sunday. I also used my rest time to help cook in the cooking class, to help dig out the pig pens at the company's pig farm, and so on.
I am not satisfied with these. One day, I saw a photo of Lei Feng working as an off-campus counselor in school published in " People's Liberation Army Pictorial ". The image of Yan's mother in my hometown came to my mind, and when I associated it with the image of Lei Feng, I decided Determined to go to school and work as an off-campus counselor. I reported this idea to instructor Liu Genming, and he supported me very much.
A few days later, I contacted the Dongfeng Forest Farm school two kilometers away from my residence and recommended myself to work as an off-campus counselor. The school leaders listened to my idea and were very happy. On the same day, a teacher-student meeting of eight classes in the school was held, and I was hired as an off-campus counselor. A bright red scarf was worn on my chest.
The red scarf I wore at Dongfeng Forestry School
In addition to the activities organized by the whole school, my key contact class was the class where a teacher named Wang Sichao was the class teacher.
At that time, I cooperated with the school to tell the students "The Story of Lei Feng", tell the stories of heroes, and provide special guidance on "being a young pioneer of unity and friendship" and "being an outstanding student who abides by discipline". After the activity was carried out, it was very effective in inspiring and educating students.
’s tutoring process in school is also a process of increasing friendship between me and the children. Fifty years have passed, and I can still remember the names of several children, such as: Uyghur primary school students Ayi Xianmu, Paxiahan, Wufu, Tayi, etc.
On the "June 1st" day in 1973, students from Dongfeng Forestry School came to our company to carry out the "Do Good Things for Uncles of the People's Liberation Army" activity. It was our company commander Wu Yinku who received the teacher and these students. Company Commander Wu asked me to take the students to visit several classes of heavy machine guns and automatic rifles weapons. I introduced the knowledge of firearms and also visited the uniform "one-day life" of soldiers.
When I am old, I will go to the podium again to educate students in the "red lecture hall"
I retired in 2013. After retirement, he first wrote books and later did social welfare. During this period, six or seven books were published, totaling 850,000 words. I am also involved in several volunteer activities, as well as donating money. Around 2018, I wanted to put myself into a "half-rest" state. So, what else can be done?
I thought of school again, of Yan’s mother’s lectures, and of the off-campus tutoring at Dongfeng Forest Farm School. I'm sure, go to school! Assist schools to provide education on glorious traditions, education on revolutionary heroism, education on Lei Feng’s spirit, and moral education that is suitable for students’ growth characteristics and within their own capabilities. I published a short essay in my eighth book "Late Autumn Maple Leaves": "I want to do something for the glorious traditional education of the school."
My idea was agreed by Teacher Wang of Xi'an High-tech International School. This education kicked off in March 2021, the "Centenary of the Founding of the Party".
The school read the book "Memories of a Red Family" written by me. There are many revolutionary stories, so I decided to use this book as the basic content to carry out "Red Lecture Hall" education.

I selected my cousin, uncle, uncle, father, aunt and other six revolutionaries from the book to sacrifice their lives and blood for the revolution; to sit in the Kuomintang's prison for the revolution; The story of the revolutionary struggle on the smoke-filled battlefield of the Anti-Japanese War was combined with the meritorious deeds of Zhong Nanshan, the "epidemic hero" well known to the students, and the lecture was conducted with the theme of "hero".
Lectures with the theme of "Heroes"
In order to attract students' attention, I played the five-minute short film "The Feather Letter" Haiwa before the lecture. During the lecture, I focused on the interactive effect of the topic. I also gave small gifts such as Lei Feng medals that I purchased with my own money to the students who answered the questions. After the lecture, I sent out "chicken feather letters" with chicken feathers attached in advance and stated the desired content, which improved the educational effect.
When giving lectures, I wear the 65-style military uniform I served in and hang up the military medals and medals I have received, which also attracts students. After the lecture, the students refused to leave, wanting to see and touch these military medals. The students admired the heroes and even lined up to get my autograph. I first wrote down my words of hope and then signed my name.
A "feathered letter" sent to Beijing Zhongguancun No. 2 Primary School
I conducted two red education sessions in schools in Xi'an.When there was a need for education at Zhongguancun No. 13 Primary School in Beijing, I sent a "chicken feather letter" to the students of the school and my niece gave the lecture on my behalf. My "feather letter" to the students of Gaoxin International School is still displayed in the exhibition hall. My red education lecture "I Tell You the Story of the Party" was rated as a "Quality Education Course" by the school.
This is my deep connection with the school’s “red education” in my life.
