The column "History of Xinjiang" contains a lot of content. I will describe two parts tonight: First, Ili General. The second is the westward migration of Chahar Mongolia.

The following is a brief introduction to these two parts:

(1) General Yili

General Yili, the full name is President Yili and other generals, is the nominal leader of the Xinjiang region established after Qianlong Emperor of the Qing Dynasty pacified the Quasibu and Huibu. The highest military and political officer, a first-grade military attache.

General Yili's jurisdiction extends to Hami and Barkol in the east, to Congling and Chu River and the Talas River Basin in the west, to Lake Balkhash and the middle and upper reaches of the Irtysh River in the north. South to Kunlun Mountain .

In the twenty-seventh year of Qianlong's reign, Mingrui was appointed as the first general of Ili. In 1912, Zhirui ended as the last general of Ili.

Ili General Controlled the Counselor and Minister of Talbahatai, Urumqi Dutong , and Kashgar Counselor and Minister.

General Yili has the functions of commanding the garrison, inspecting officials, setting up farmland and stocking livestock, organizing production, verifying tax collection, patrolling borders and guarding territory, etc.

After Xinjiang was established as a province in 1884, General Ili was only responsible for the defense and military administration of Ili and Tarbahatai.

(2) The Chahar Mongols moved westward

In the early 1860s, there were three incidents in the Chahar area. Three groups of Chahar Mongols brought their families and drove their livestock to Xinjiang, and garrisoned at the fortress outside the Great Wall博Ertala , and became a permanent resident here, a tragic act of protecting the family and the country for generations. This is the famous "Chahar moved westward and stationed at the border" incident in history. They shouldered the important task of fortifying the border and made indelible contributions to safeguarding the northwest frontier.

Chahar Mongolia moved westward to Xinjiang and was stationed in Bortala. It was praised by contemporary academic circles as "one of the two major events that 'shocked the world and made ghosts and gods weep' that happened on the Bortala grassland at that time." Of these two major events, one was the movement of the Chahar Mongols to the west to guard the border, and the other was the return of the Turgut Mongols to the east. The two Mongolian tribes have since converged and evolved, becoming the main ethnic group in the Bortala Mongolian Autonomous Prefecture after the founding of New China.

The troops stationed by the Qing government in the Yili region of Xinjiang were stationed for a long period of time from once every three years to long-term garrison with family members, which adapted to the needs of the development of Xinjiang's political, military and economic situation at that time. The westward migration of the officers and soldiers of the Eight Banners of Chahar to guard the border is an event of great significance in the history of Xinjiang, and also a major event of great significance to the people of the Eight Banners of Chahar in Inner Mongolia and other regions. The move westward not only changed the fate of the people who moved westward, but also had a profound impact on the politics, economy, military, culture, etc. of the Ili region of Xinjiang and even the entire northwest region, setting the foundation for the development of border areas in all dynasties and periods. Stability and development have both played an irreplaceable historical role.
