Although Obsidian Studio and Bethesd are currently under Microsoft Xbox, the sequel to "Fallout: New Vegas" is still far away. As the 25th anniversary of the Fallout series was underway, Bethesd Director Todd Howards explained why he chose to participate in the Fallout: New Vegas game production.
Todd Howards said Fallout: New Vegas was originally planned to be a large-scale extension of " Fallout 3". At that time, the game overlapped with the development time of "The Elder Scrolls: Skyrim", so Bethesd had to contact another developer to produce this large-scale extension. The only ideal choice for Todd Howards at the time was Obsidian.
Todd Howards added: "Although it is actually a large expansion for Fallout 3, I later strongly thought it should be a standalone work." Obsidian CEO Feargus Urquhart and game director Josh Sawyer also believed that the game will gain more appeal if it is independent of Fallout 3.
"Fallout 3" was released in in October 2008. It is the third major work in the "Fallout" series. "Fallout: New Vegas" was launched on PC in October 2010. This work uses a game system and role-playing game elements similar to "Fallout 3". It is an independent work that inherits the world view of the series.
