Nintendo has taken the Switch Sports server offline and suspended the save data backup as it is investigating issues that caused the latest game update to crash.
Switch Sports’ version 1.2.1 update was released earlier this week to further strengthen measures against what Nintendo calls online “destructive behavior” and promises to suspend any online players who violate its community guidelines. Punished behavior includes "fraudulent behavior, such as manipulation of data preservation."
Unfortunately, patch 1.2.1 also introduces a serious bug that can cause crashes when loading the screen before the game - whether online or offline.
After the initial vulnerability report, Nintendo announced that it would temporarily suspend updates. Since then, however, it has decided to put Switch Sports servers off-line – pausing online games – while investigating and finding solutions. This move will also prevent users from saving data backups.
Nintendo has not revealed its downtime yet, but those eager to get the latest news should follow its social media channels for more information.
Before Switch Sports encounters these latest troubles, the game's highly anticipated Golf update was postponed in September, which will include 21 holes in the Wii Sports series, which can be played locally or online. Nintendo said it would take "more time to develop". The updated version of Switch Sports' Golf is expected to be released before the end of this year.
