high-profile mod maker Lance McDonald posted a video that looked like a working PlayStation 5 vulnerability that could "jailbreak" the host.
Lance McDonald's video shows that PS5 reads custom code through a vulnerability in the online user guide. Once run, the host is able to access the debug settings and then install the famous PT demo – of course, under normal circumstances, it is no longer available.
So, how bad is this for Sony ? At present, the use of this vulnerability is limited. This approach is reportedly still "pretty unstable" and offers "read/write access, but not executed" - so you can download the PT demo, but can't play it yet.
Another major limitation is that PS5 needs to run outdated system software version 4.03 at the latest, which will be replaced by the end of 2021.
Still, this may still sound a wake-up call to Sony, as it is an important step for users to try to completely bypass the company's security system - just like Nintendo that happened in the past on PS3, PS4 and Switch.
