According to the latest data from data.ai, in the second quarter of 2022, 65 cents of every $1 spent on the Google Play platform and the iOS store were spent on games. Games accounted for 72% and 62% of spending on the two app stores respectively. In terms of platforms, iOS has had a stronger performance over the past 12 months. Its global game user spending will reach $13.3 billion in the second quarter of 2022, while Google Play will reach $8.2 billion. Data.ai notes that Google Play spending has slowed slightly, in part due to the removal of app store payment processing in Russia during the conflict in Eastern Europe. In 2021, Russia was the 11th largest gaming market in the world by user spending. Gaming spending accounts for 66% of total spending in Russia, 68% of which comes from Google Play. Additionally, Google Play games revenue declined slightly quarter-over-quarter in the U.S. and Japan, two of Google Play's largest markets.

By region, China, the United States, and Japan were the largest contributors to iOS game user spending in the second quarter of 2022. However, in terms of absolute numbers, the fastest growing markets during the quarter were China, Japan and Taiwan.

On Google Play, the United States, Japan, and South Korea led the way in Q2 2022, with Australia, Sri Lanka, and Hong Kong seeing the largest increases in quarterly spending.

11 billion new game downloads on Google Play

The mobile gaming space has a limited impact in terms of downloads, but it still dominates the app space to a certain extent. Data.ai’s second quarter report shows that game downloads accounted for 44% of total Google Play downloads and 27% of total iOS downloads.

Kiloo's parkour game Subway Surfers returned to the top spot in the second quarter of 2022, confirming data.ai's predictions for 2022, with all downloads of Subway Surfers exceeding 2 billion times in April alone. This cemented Subway Surfers as the most popular mobile game of all time, and it still tops charts around the world. It also ranks third in the global monthly active user rankings. A standout performer in terms of downloads is Supersonic's Bridge Race, which jumps 54 places to fourth. There's also Kitka Games' party-chicken game Stumble Guys, which climbed 21 spots to eighth on the downloads chart.

In terms of user spending, " King of Glory " and " Genshin Impact " took the top two positions. The latter is a phenomenal game in the mobile field and is still breaking records.
