NetHack is included in the New York Museum of Modern Art collection. It was selected by the Museum of Architecture and Design for its small video game collection and is on display as part of this fall's "Never Alone" exhibition. NetHack was originally a clone of the 1982 dungeon crawler game Hack (based on the 1980 game Rogue), which would later influence games such as Diablo and Torchlight. It is one of the oldest open source projects still active, actually predating the term "open source" (then called " free software ") and even GPL by several years. It was also one of the first, if not the first, software projects to be developed entirely over the Internet, by teams distributed around the world (hence the "Net" in "NetHack").

Linus Torvalds objected to using -O3 optimization to compile the kernel

. We reported before that a developer proposed a patch to enable the -O3 optimization parameter to compile the kernel on all CPU architectures. Previously, this Kconfig parameter was only available on the ARC architecture. Linus Torvalds' take on this is that he actually objects to having such a Kconfig option. He needs to be convinced by some real, real-world data showing the benefits. Of course, interested people can add similar options to the compiler to achieve -O3 optimization even if they do not have this Kconfig option. But Linus also pointed out, "-O3 has more of a black history when it comes to generating bad code. It's best to simply remove this option."

Lao Wang's comment: Over-optimization is obviously a mistake, Linus and The kernel community remains as conservative and prudent as ever. However, I think that as an experimental option, it can be more open, and perhaps it can really improve kernel and compiler optimization.

Fedora CoreOS expected to be promoted to official version

Fedora CoreOS is an automatically updated, minimal operating system for container workloads that aims to combine the best features of CoreOS Container Linux and Fedora Atomic Host.
