In July, the growth rate of cosmetics retail sales fell to 2.8%, which was the first single-digit growth this year and the first time it was lower than the overall rate of 8.5%. As of August, with the decline in the total retail sales of consumer goods, the retail sales of cosmetics increased zero.

From the perspective of retail sales, in March, May, and June, the retail sales of cosmetics all exceeded 30 billion yuan, while those in April, July, and August were relatively low.

Overall, from January to August this year, retail sales of cosmetics reached 246.2 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 20%, higher than the 18.1% growth rate of total retail sales of consumer goods.

Douyin beauty e-commerce hit a new monthly high

Online channels are still the main driving force for the growth of the total retail sales of consumer goods. According to data from the National Bureau of Statistics, from January to August, the national online retail sales reached 8122.7 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 19.7%.

Among them, the online retail sales of physical goods was 6,634 billion yuan, an increase of 15.9%, accounting for 23.6% of the total retail sales of consumer goods; among the online retail sales of physical goods,Food, clothing and consumer goods increased by 22.4%, 19.4% and 14.2% respectively.

As far as the beauty category is concerned, in August this year, Douyin e-commerce continued to grow. Public data shows that Douyin e-commerce beauty GMV reached 6.374 billion yuan, a new monthly high.

Among them, Hou, Ou Shiman, and Han Shu are currently the third in the skin care category, with GMV of 132 million, 128 million, and 0.93 million respectively; the cosmetics categories Huaxizi, Bai Ruimei and Han Lun Meiyu remain the top three, with GMV of 102 million, respectively. 5,100, 4,300.
