The author of this article, Liu Nanfang, and Gong Quanzhen (right) are together
Gong Quanzhen has supported her husband Gan Zuchang for decades
. People say that half of men are women. It doesn't matter whether this statement is accurate or not, but countless facts have proved that between husband and wife, any action of the husband cannot be separated from the support of his wife, and the same is true of Gan Zuchang and Gong Quanzhen. Recently, the author had the honor to interview Gong Quanzhen and met the wife of a "general peasant".
A rare interview
Because I wrote "The Biography of General Farmer Gan Zuchang", I had the opportunity to interview Gan Zuchang's wife, Gong Quanzhen. She left a deep impression on me.
I went to her house in October 2006. She lives with her third daughter. When I arrived, she was already waiting at the door. I had never seen her before. From a distance, I saw an old lady who was not tall and dressed in simple clothes standing there. She let me sit down in the room on the third floor, and after hearing what I was coming from, she began to introduce it clearly.
Gong Quanzhen was originally the principal of a primary school, and people still used to call her principal Gong after retirement. She is very satisfied with this title. Of course, she is satisfied not because she has a long-term and official position, but because it is linked to the school. The most happy job in her life is education. As long as she can be with students, no matter how hard she is, she will be tired. All happy. It's no wonder that during my interview, she received several phone calls and made appointments with her to give reports on patriotism education to primary and middle school students. She told me that she would be invited one or two times a week, sometimes more than that, it was very busy.
I asked her age, she said 83. I took a closer look. Her hair was more white than black, and there were several "years and rivers" on her forehead. The skin on her face was a little wrinkled, and her complexion was slightly older, but her bones were still quite healthy, especially when she spoke with more air. Full and good spirits. After listening to her entire introduction, I feel that Gan Zuchang's life is obviously legendary, and her life is also like this.
A heroic general
For Gan Zuchang, many people know that he is an old party member who participated in the revolution in the mid-1920s. He has been in the army for 30 years and has experienced the Jinggangshan struggle, five times of anti-"encirclement and suppression", and 20,000 yuan. The Long March of Five Thousand Miles, the War of Resistance Against Japan, the Nanniwan Production, the Northwest Liberation War, Xinjiang's reclaiming of the border. He fought in the North and South, was born to death, and was wounded many times. In 1955, he was awarded the rank of major general. He was awarded the second-level August 1st, the second-level Independent Freedom Medal, and the second-level Liberation Medal. In his hometown, Yanbei Village, Fanglou Township, Lianhua County, he became the country's first general farmer.
Gong Quanzhen and Gan Zuchang married in 1953. The two have been together for decades. She never feels special or superior because she is the wife of the chief executive or the wife of the general. She always treats people with an ordinary mentality. Later, she told me about her life and experience.
A bitter experience
Gong Quanzhen was born in a poor family in Yantai, Shandong Province in 1923. His father was a telegraph operator of the post and telecommunications bureau, and his mother was a housewife. The parents gave birth to 13 children and brought 11 children alive. She was ranked fifth. When she was in the fifth grade of elementary school, the Japanese devils occupied Yantai. Her third brother who was in junior high school left home to join the Eighth Route Army. She also wanted to go. The third brother said to pick her up in 3 years. But three years later, the third brother did not come to pick him up, and her 60-year-old father died suddenly. To help her mother share the burden of the family's life, her two eldest and second elder brothers who went to high school in Ningbo came back. With the help of her brother, she finished middle school.
Due to difficulties in life, it is impossible for Gong Quanzhen to go to school after finishing junior high school. She decided to find her third brother to join the Eighth Route Army. To raise travel expenses, she came to the suburbs of Yantai as a teacher. Half a year later, she did not find out about the whereabouts of the Eighth Route Army, so she went to Anhui, Henan, and Shaanxi as exile students, completed high school, and was admitted to the Department of Education of Northwest University. When
enrolled, due to school regulations, every freshman must find one or two teachers from the school for guarantor. With the help of classmates, a junior student hired a guarantor teacher for her, but an unfortunate marriage followed Come. The junior chased her and couldn't get rid of her, and was finally forced to marry him. However, the twisted melon is not sweet. Although they have given birth to two children, their feelings are still at odds. Especially afterwards, Gong Quanzhen discovered that the man had concealed the history of the reactionary backbone of the
KMT and refused to explain it to the organization. She resolutely exposed to the organization and divorced him. Later, after graduating from university, Gong Quanzhen joined the army and went to Urumqi, where he worked as a teacher at the Children’s School of the Provincial Military Region. The unforgettable meeting of
was introduced to the children’s school and met with Gan Zuchang. Speaking of this past event, Mr. Gong still couldn't restrain his inner excitement. When it was first liberated, Xinjiang was home to 200,000 People's Liberation Army. To solve the problem of food and clothing for the troops, with the approval of the central government, the troops started to reclaim the border. But there was a thorny problem at the time, that is, many officers and soldiers could not find a spouse. To solve this problem, Wang Zhen, then commander of the Military Region, handed over the task to Gan Zuchang, then Minister of Logistics of the Military Region. Gan Zuchang led the Logistics Department to think of many ways. He went to Beijing, Shanghai and other big cities to recruit a group of female soldiers. At the same time, he encouraged the officers and soldiers to write letters and go home to visit relatives to find people to settle down in Xinjiang. In this way, a group of older officers and soldiers tied the knot, and Gan Zuchang successfully completed the task, but he ignored his single problem. After Wang Zhen found out, he personally went to the school for children of the military region and learned that there were more than a dozen single female teachers, and instructed the principal to introduce one to Gan Zuchang. Principal
quickly selected Gong Quanzhen and arranged for them to meet in the name of Gan Zuchang's need to understand the situation of the students in the logistics department. At that time, Gong Quanzhen didn't know the "inside story", and only reported to Gan Zuchang about the students' situation when they met. She didn't even take a serious look at what Gan Zuchang looked like. Afterwards, the principal asked her what she had been like, and she was puzzled.
Not long after, Gan Zuchang came to see her. She found that Gan Zuchang was very human, and she had no headlines at all, but she felt that she was an ordinary teacher, and her status was too different. In addition, she was a married person and had two children. It was inappropriate to marry Gan Zuchang. As everyone knows, Gan Zuchang doesn't mind this. His criteria for choosing a spouse is that the wife has good ideological qualities, can bear hardships and stand hard work, has a kind heart, and has no bad temper.
Under the arrangement of the principal, they met again. Gan Zuchang is worthy of being a soldier. He told Gong Quanzhen about his situation like a cannon. He said that he was 48 years old during the Chinese New Year. He only had a junior education. Gong Quanzhen couldn’t write Gong characters. Normal documents can be understood, but there are He doesn’t know the character; in addition, he is in poor health. He has suffered three serious injuries, several minor injuries, and severe concussion sequelae. He has been married twice and has a 27-year-old son, daughter-in-law, and grandson , Nephew, and niece, if you add Gong Quanzhen's mother and three sons to a family of nine, life will be more stressful and so on. Ask Gong Quanzhen if he knows these things and whether the principal has told her. Gong Quanzhen didn't say anything. He felt that this person was weird. He was talking about his own weaknesses, and he didn't say a word about the good things. However, perhaps it was this that moved her a lot. She felt that this person was honest and reliable. Although he was 18 years older than herself, she felt safe with him. So she agreed, and soon the two got married.
A stunning decision
Gong Quanzhen has become the minister’s wife, and the logistics department plans to transfer her to the ministry as secretary to Gan Zuchang. Unexpectedly, she and Gan Zuchang have agreed beforehand that she will do her best as a wife, but she must respect it. Her choice, she loves education, likes students, and just wants to be a teacher. Gan Zuchang happily agreed and even allowed her to come home every Saturday and eat and live at school the rest of the time. Even though he was in the hospital, she was not allowed to take care of her. In 1957, Gan Zuchang voluntarily disarmed and returned to the fields due to physical reasons who could not insist on normal work, and together with Gong Quanzhen led his family back to his hometown of Lotus. At that time, Gong Quanzhen was very puzzled by her husband's shocking move. When she returned to the country, she encountered problems such as speech barriers and unaccustomed life. She had experienced fierce ideological struggles. However, she soon figured it out, fully understanding and supporting her husband's decision. After
came to Lianhua, to continue his love of education, Gong Quanzhen walked to the County Bureau of Culture and Education to contact and work. The Bureau of Culture and Education assigned her to the newly established Jiudu Middle School in Fanglou Township to teach. The conditions in this school are extremely poor, with only 3 teachers and no principal. She didn't dislike it at all, and moved to work the next day, and then went home on weekends to help her husband and children mending clothes and doing housework. In 1961, the Bureau of Culture and Education wanted to transfer her to the Nanpi Primary School in the same town as the principal, but was afraid that she would not want to go from middle school to primary school. Unexpectedly, when I asked for advice, GongQuan Zhen laughed: "You made a mistake. We are not that kind of person. Zuchang only asks me to do a good job, and he doesn't care about what I do. I only need to have a book and teach and be able to be with the children. It's the same for middle school and elementary school."
happily went to Nanbei Elementary School. She still ate and lived in school. She returned home on Saturday and stayed there for 13 years. Later, she was transferred to the Ganjia Elementary School not far from home to be the principal. She was still the old style, insisted on eating and living in school, and devoted herself to work. It was not until 1976 that Gan Zuchang was in poor health and she went home to take care of Gan Zuchang.
Two respectable old people
Gan Zuchang's monthly salary was 330 yuan at that time, and he mostly used it to help the masses and collectives buy fertilizer, repair water conservancy, and help the poor. After he returned to his hometown, he participated in the construction of 3 reservoirs, 4 power stations, 3 highways, 12 bridges, and 25 kilometers of channels. Not only did he contribute his efforts, he also paid for each project. After his death, according to the incomplete statistics of the village government, since he returned home in 1957, his wages for poverty alleviation and production and construction have reached 85,780 yuan, accounting for 70% of his total wages. The reason why he can do this is inseparable from Gong Quanzhen's support. At that time, Gong Quanzhen’s salary was 80 yuan per month. She sent 20 yuan back to Shandong to her mother and left 10 yuan to eat at school, all of which was handed over to Gan Zuchang. She even gave Gan Zuchang the 2,000 yuan transfer fee for leaving Xinjiang. As the economic steward of his family, Gan Zuchang had the reputation of "iron rooster" as early as in Xinjiang, and lived very frugally. Gong Quanzhen never complained about this. It is hard to believe that Gong Quanzhen returned to Lotus for several years without making a new dress.
Once Gan Zuchang returned from a meeting in another place, he bought back a few feet of cheap blue card and cloth at the meeting. Gong Quanzhen used it to make two pairs of pants. Later, one of her female students grew up and was about to get married, and she gave one to the female student. The reason why I wanted to give a pair of pants to the female students was a touching story. In 1958, when steelmaking and ironmaking were large, Gong Quanzhen took the students up the mountain to dig
iron ore with a pregnant belly. It happened on the mountain. The students were helpless and did not know what to do. Fortunately, she was an old parturient. First of all, she was calm and not panicked. She arranged the students she had brought to be led by the student cadres, and then asked an older female student to help her down the mountain. This female student was very sensible and said she was supporting her. In fact, she carried Gong Quanzhen on her back almost all the way. After going down the mountain, she hurriedly asked her villagers to send Gong Quanzhen to the commune hospital. This incident deeply moved Gong Quanzhen. She always wanted to express her gratitude to the student, but she did not find something suitable. It was not until a few years later, when the student was about to get married, that she started with two new pants. One of them was given to her. But in this way, she is not enough to wear it herself. Once she hugged the child, the child accidentally peeed, and her trousers were wet. There was no pants to change. Gong Quanzhen had to temporarily find a pair of torn pants and replace them.
Gong Quanzhen is very generous and very human. She not only treats Gan Zuchang's original wife's son without distinction, but also regards Gan Zuchang's original wife as sisters. When Gan Zuchang passed away, she specifically urged that Gan Zuchang's original wife be brought in to bid farewell to the remains. Several of Gan Zuchang's younger brothers disagreed, and even her son thought it was unnecessary, but she insisted on looking for it. She said: "After all, they were married and had children. After Zuchang joined the Red Army, she was still a victim. How can we forget her?" Proportionate. In the future, the original wife has difficulties at home, and Gong Quanzhen does his best to help.
Gong Quanzhen and Gan Zuchang have been together for 33 years. For 33 years, their husband and wife have been harmonious and sincere. They have never blushed or quarreled, and they have always treated each other as guests. She admired Gan Zuchang's lifelong maintenance of the old Red Army's true qualities and the noble sentiments of a Communist Party member. Gong Quanzhen lived a very light life. Apart from accompanying Gan Zuchang to Shanghai twice, once to Nanchang, and once to Jinggangshan, he has never been to any other big cities or scenic spots, let alone abroad. Gong Quanzhen has been loyal to rural education for decades, and has never left school for a day. Outsiders think she is an authentic countryman. No one would have thought that she was a general's wife, but she always treated her indifferently. , There is always no regrets. The vicissitudes of
years have pushed her to her senior year, but she is still working hard for education, and she also told the relevant departments that she wants to donate her own cornea and liver to him after a hundred years.Human health makes the last point. How noble is its virtue and behavior! (Source Jiangnan Metropolis Daily 2007)
