The story of "Avatar: Way of Water" takes place more than ten years after the first " Avatar ".
Since "Avatar" was released in 2009, director James Cameron has been discussing the issue of the sequel.
"Avatar" became the highest-grossing movie in history. (Avengers 4: Endgame won the box office championship in 2019). This powerful science fiction movie is set in the distant planet Pandora, telling the story of human Jack Sally (played by Sam Worthington) using the genetically modified body of Namei and become friends with the local Namei.
Now, the sequel will tell the story more than a decade later, with the protagonists of Sally, his lover Natili (played by Zoe Saldana) and their new family.
Many original crew members will return.
In addition to the sequel to Worthington and Saldana’s return, we will also see Giovanni Ribissi, the chief corporate manager of the human mining project on the planet Pandora in the first film.
The two actors who died in the first part will also return. Sigourney Weaver, who plays Dr. Grace Augustine, will return, but will not play the same role. Stephen Lang , who plays the big villain Colonel Miles Quach, also got a second chance.
But there are newcomers.
After starring in another blockbuster "Titanic" by Cameron in 1997, Kate Winslet will work with Cameron again.
Winslet will play a freediver named Ronal, one of the Nameis who lives in the waters of Metkayina on the planet Pandora.
Cliff Curtis ("Blow," "Training Day," "Whale Rider") will play Tonowari, the leader of Metkayina. Edie Falco and Michelle Yeoh have been selected as role A.
Vin Diesel said in his 2019 Instagram post that he will also join the crew. However, there is no news about who he will play.
water will be the main theme of the sequel.
As the title suggests, we will see more of what’s going on under the ground in Pandora in the sequel.
To complete these scenes, the crew built a huge 900,000 gallon performance capture tank in New Zealand for the sequel.
Back in 2020, Winslet, who starred in the sequel, told The Hollywood Reporter that she had to hold her breath for more than 7 minutes to complete the underwater scene.
Like the first part, the technology used in "Avatar: Way of Water" is also groundbreaking. While shooting underwater, Cameron and the special effects team of Vita Digital developed an underwater motion capture system to capture performances.
The device has never been used before this movie and took a year and a half to develop.
He left a video message on CinemaCon in 2022 that, like the first one, Cameron plans to promote the boundaries of 3D and present the "most immersive 3D."
He said: "We are further breaking the limitations, 3D has high dynamic range, high frame rate , higher resolution and more realistic visual effects."
All sequels will be standalone movies.
At CinemaCon 2022, Avatar series producer Jon Lando revealed some of the ways in which the sequels were told, pointing out that they will all be independent stories, which means that each sequel has an ending.
However, the family of Sully and Neytiri will be a common narrative line that runs through them all.
The first trailer was launched in May 2022. The trailer was released in 3D theaters before the Marvel movie Doctor Strange 2: Multiverse Crazy was released in May, and it was later released online.
No matter what form you see it, the visual effects are amazing.
