"I have made a movie for a lifetime, and I have never been so uneasy." At the premiere of the movie, Huang Jianxin described his feelings like this.
At the end of 2019, the main creative team of "Changjin Lake" had assembled in Dandong, Northeast China. As a result, it caught up with the epidemic and had to stop and wait until the end of 2020 to restart. On November 24, 2020, Chen Kaige started in Zhejiang and became the first director to start work after the entire film resumed shooting.
When Tsui Hark started shooting, the temperature was close to minus 30 degrees Celsius. Their group was shot until early summer. The actors were wearing cotton jackets and sweating all over.
Lin Chaoxian was the last to join the group. "Filming a movie in a cold place is a big problem for me. Fortunately, we rushed through it step by step. This scene is really not easy."
The three directors have three styles, co-directing the same movie. How to coordinate and unify the style of the movie is a difficult problem that everyone often faces when working with multiple people. Lin Chaoxian believes that this problem does not exist in the movie "Changjin Lake". "What each director deals with, we actually have a clearer distinction. It's not the kind that you shoot one, I will continue to shoot, and then you will shoot again."

Since the War to Resist US Aggression and Aid Korea was a confrontation between China and the United States, the movie needed many American tanks as props. Domestic American tanks are scarce, and there are only 80 prop tanks in film shooting. Huang Jianxin revealed that this movie has created the largest cost of production and shooting, but they are still saving money. "In addition to being a soldier for a few years, I was making movies. This situation is completely beyond my experience." Huang Jianxin said.
In addition to cost, the epidemic has also had a great impact on filming. There are several large-scale scenes in the part that Lin Chaoxian is in charge of shooting, which requires a large number of actors. Especially for scenes such as the landing and retreat of the US military, at least 1,400-1,500 foreign actors are required. However, under the epidemic, group performances to play the US military can only be found in China, which is very difficult.
For Lin Chaoxian personally, the weather is his biggest "enemy". As a Hong Kong director, it is the first time for him to film a film in extremely cold weather. "I used to be able to take more than 50 shots a day, but now I may not be able to take 20 shots a night." Lin Chaoxian revealed that during the filming of "Changjin Lake", there were night scenes for 60 consecutive days, when the crew was on the mountain. , Every day is very cold, "I don't have this kind of experience before, it's already very difficult for me."
This experience gave Lin Chaoxian a deeper respect for the Chinese People's Volunteers in the Battle of Changjin Lake. "What are we filming now? It was minus 50 degrees back then, you can't move, can you still play? But they are still charging."
Lin Chaoxian said that although the film cannot show 100% of the true history, they are trying to restore the spirit of the volunteer army in history as much as possible. "To present everyone's truth, let the audience see how they face difficulties and how they are going."
In "Changjin Lake", "Wu Wanli" played by Yi Qianqianxi is a recruit. Lin Chaoxian said that when "Wu Wanli" first arrived on the battlefield, let alone shooting, it was unclear what the bullet was. "How does he grow up on the battlefield, and how does he think about war after he grows up?" Lin Chaoxian introduced that in character design, they established the role of "Wu Wanli" through the point of "growth".
"The actors do not leave the group for 6 months. This is very rare in the current state of the movie. Huang Jianxin said with emotion, "Changjin Lake" is a "hard to come across in their lives" for these people. Everyone put all their energy and emotions into it.
