Justice is late but never absent. Recently, Donglan County police arrested a murder suspect who had been on the run for nearly 20 years in Operation Yunjian, which was uniformly deployed by the Ministry of Public Security.
On the evening of March 1, 2001, Mao and Yan, from Nongying Village, , , Sanshi Town, Donglan County had a quarrel in Bentun over daily trivial matters. Yan killed Mao with a knife and fled the scene. He was young at the time. Mr. Mao witnessed the murder of his father.
The victim's son, Mr. Mao:
At that time, he came to borrow cement from my house because he wanted to build a house. My mother asked my father to ask him to get it back. He stabbed my dad seven times.
Due to the late time of the incident and the location of the incident in a remote mountainous area, coupled with the remnants of the scene and the limited technology at the time, the police have been unable to find any trace of the suspect. Now nearly 20 years have passed, and the case file has turned yellow, but the police have never given up on the investigation of the case. With the launch of the special campaign to tackle the backlog of homicide cases in 2020, the murder of Mao was listed and supervised by the Public Security Department of the Autonomous Region. The members of the task force sorted out the files in depth and used a variety of new technical and tactical methods to search. In early July this year, the police found that Yan may be hiding in the area of Zhanjiang, Guangdong, and the police of the task force carried out the investigation and visit with the only clues.
Donglan County Public Security Bureau Criminal Investigation Team Huang Lingzhang:
The clue is a black and white photo of this person 20 years ago. We don't have a lot of other information. At that time, the physical evidence collected at the scene was also relatively small. We just want to compare the portraits and go there to take a look.
With the help of the Zhanjiang police, it was finally confirmed that Yan was working in a private cement factory and the suspect who had been hiding for nearly 20 years was arrested.
According to the interrogation, Yan explained that after he murdered, he immediately fled to Guangdong along a remote mountain road. Because he was afraid of revealing his identity, he did not work for more than half a year in each place. The young man of the past is now full of vicissitudes, and his hair is sparse and he looks like two different people in the photos. At present, Yan has been criminally detained by the public security organs.
The victim's son Mr. Mao:
Thank you, the Public Security Bureau, for helping us catch him, otherwise we would not be able to raise our heads.
