On November 18, the Ministry of Education and the National Language and Character Working Committee of issued the "Ranking Standards and Test Outline of Mandarin Proficiency Test for Primary and Secondary School Students" (trial) and the "Chinese Character Radical Table". Both language and writing standards were organized and developed by the Ministry of Education’s Language and Character Application Institute (Training and Testing Center for the National Language and Language Commission’s Mandarin and Character Application) and approved by the National Language and Character Standard Review Committee.

"Ranking Standards and Test Outline of Mandarin Proficiency Test for Primary and Secondary School Students" is developed based on extensive research and large-scale tests. In accordance with the principles of applicability, communication and systemicity, it fully draws on the long-term academic achievements and practical experience of Mandarin Proficiency Test, and strives to adapt to the mental characteristics and academic requirements of primary and secondary school students, combine it with the compulsory education Chinese curriculum standards and teaching practice, and effectively connect it with the Mandarin Proficiency Test. This specification divides the Mandarin level of primary and secondary school students into 6 levels, and stipulates the content, scope, test paper composition and scoring standards of the test, and is applicable to the assessment or evaluation monitoring of Mandarin level for students in grade 5 and above in compulsory education. The specification will be trialled from December 15, 2022.

"Chinese Character Radical Table" is a revision of the first edition released in 2009. According to the principles of stability, systematicity and practicality, the revised version focuses on improving the standardization and informatization of radical applications. On the basis of maintaining the original 201 main radicals, it adds and fine-tunes individual attached radicals, and gives some common radical names and international codes for information processing of radicals. This specification is mainly applicable to the classification and retrieval of Chinese characters in the fields of dictionary compilation, information processing, etc., and can also be used for Chinese character teaching and research. The newly revised "Chinese Character Radical Table" will be implemented from December 15, 2022.
