At the end of 2021, the computer-based IELTS test will cover more than 30 cities in China

IELTS official said that there are currently more than 10,000 institutions around the world that recognize the IELTS test, including 100% of the UK, Canada, Australia and New Zealand institutions of higher learning and the Visa and Immigration Bureau, as well as more than 3400 US institutions (including All Ivy League schools). Chinese universities and top employers also recognize IELTS as a proof of language ability for school and job search. Every year, more than 3.5 million people take the IELTS test in 140 countries and regions around the world.

Currently, IELTS has officially opened computer-based test centers in many cities in China, and more will be added in the future. According to You Zhuoran, Director of Examination Operations of the British Council’s Examinations Department, “As of March 2021, the IELTS organizer has opened 17 computer-based test centers in 14 cities including Beijing, Shanghai, Hangzhou, Guangzhou, Shenzhen, and Chengdu. The top cities for computer-based testing include Shanghai, Beijing, Guangzhou and Shenzhen. It is estimated that by the end of 2021, the IELTS test organizer plans to reach more than 50 computer-based test sites, covering more than 30 cities."

According to the British Council Ju Linlin, head of the market of the examination department, revealed that after the IELTS test is retaken, the IELTS volume has basically returned to the level of the same period in 2019. From the perspective of the age composition of IELTS students: in 2020, 19-22 years old IELTS students accounted for the largest proportion. The proportion of candidates under the age of 18 has increased, and candidates over the age of 23-25 ​​have become the second largest age group of candidates. From the perspective of destination countries for IELTS students: In 2020, the proportion of IELTS students who use the UK and Canada as their destination countries will increase; the proportion of candidates who use Australia and the United States as their destination countries will decrease. At the same time, Asian countries are also favored by IELTS students.

This year, the IELTS official also plans to launch the IELTS China Scholarship Program, which is expected to be launched at the end of April and open the application channel. The application deadline is at the end of June. Applicants can receive a reward of up to RMB 50,000.
