Hubei University for Nationalities is located in Enshi City, Hubei Province. It is a provincial general undergraduate institution. It is a key university in Hubei Province and a school jointly established by Hubei Province and the National Ethnic Affairs Commission. It was selected into the first batch of the Excellent Agriculture and Forestry Talent Education and Training Plan and the Outstanding Doctor (Traditional Chinese Medicine) Education and Training Plan.
In 1938, the Hubei Provincial Lianzhong Rural Normal School Branch was established, and later changed to the Hubei Provincial No. 7 Normal School; in 1950, it was renamed Enshi Normal School; in 1978, Enshi Normal College was established; in 1984, preparations were made to build Western Hubei University on the basis of Enshi Normal College; in 1989, it was renamed Hubei University for Nationalities.
