Many students and parents have had such doubts, why do some universities call it "universities" and some universities call it "college"? What is a "National University"? Is only ethnic minorities able to go to the market? Let’s advance towards the top students and give you some popular science!
"University" and "college" are not taken at will. The current undergraduate colleges and universities in my country are divided into universities and colleges. Regarding the difference between universities and colleges, the Ministry of Education has very specific regulations.
"Higher Education Law of the People's Republic of China " stipulates that universities and colleges should have strong teaching and scientific research strength, high teaching and scientific research level and corresponding scale, and be able to implement undergraduate and undergraduate education above.
Overall, universities have higher requirements than colleges. But this does not mean that universities are definitely better than colleges. In some professional subjects, some colleges' teaching and scientific research levels may be higher than the same major in some universities.
The main difference between colleges and universities independently set up by ordinary undergraduate schools is that the number of full-time students in colleges should be more than 8,000, and the number of graduate students in school should not be less than 5% of the total number of full-time students. College: The number of full-time students should be more than 5,000.
Different requirements for "university" and "college"

Discipline majors universities and colleges have different requirements in the settings of their main disciplines and their coverage majors, the configuration of the number of students in the school, the number of master's degree awarding points, and the total number of ordinary undergraduate majors.
1. Among the disciplines of humanities , social disciplines, science, engineering, agriculture, medicine, management, etc., the college should have more than one discipline category as the main discipline, while the university should have more than three disciplines.
2. The college’s main subject categories should be able to cover more than 3 majors in this discipline; the general undergraduate major in each major discipline category of the university should cover more than 3 first-level disciplines in this discipline category. The full-time undergraduate or above students in each major discipline category shall not be less than 15% of the total number of full-time undergraduate or above students in the school, and at least 2 master’s degree awarding points, and the total number of general undergraduate majors is at least 20.

The difference between faculty team and college in terms of faculty is mainly reflected in: the number of full-time teachers, the proportion of teachers with postgraduate and doctoral degree, the number of teachers with associate senior professional and technical positions or above, the number of teachers with full professorships, etc. 1. The total number of full-time teachers in the early stages of the school's establishment shall not be less than 280.
The proportion of full-time teachers with postgraduate degree should not be less than 30%, the number of full-time teachers with deputy senior professional and technical positions or above shall not be less than 30%, and the number of full-time teachers with full-time professorships shall not be less than 10 full-time teachers with full-time professorships.
The proportion of full-time teachers in universities with graduate degrees should generally reach more than 50%. Among them, the proportion of doctoral degrees should generally reach more than 20%; the number of full-time teachers with senior professional and technical positions should generally not be less than 400, and the number of full-time teachers with full-time professorship should generally not be less than 100.

Teaching and scientific research level Both universities and colleges should have strong teaching strength and high teaching level. In the teaching level evaluation organized by the Ministry of Education, the evaluation conclusions should reach "good" or above.
and universities still need to meet the following standards:
1. In the last two teaching achievement selections, at least two projects have won national first and second prizes or provincial first prizes.
2. The scientific research level reaches the following standards:
(1) The average annual research funding in the past five years, schools mainly in humanities and social disciplines should reach at least 5 million yuan, and other universities should reach at least 30 million yuan;
(2) In the past five years, scientific research results have received 20 provincial and ministerial levels and above (including provincial and ministerial levels), of which at least 2 national rewards should be given;
(3) There are at least 2 key laboratories at or above (including provincial and ministerial levels) and 2 key disciplines;
(4) generally have at least 10 master's degrees and have master's degree graduates of more than 5 classes.

Infrastructure University and college cover the campus area, the per capita building area (called the school of the college, its total construction area should not be less than 150,000 square meters in the early stage of its establishment), the per capita teaching and research instruments and equipment value, the number of books applicable to students, and the same requirements for internships and training venues.
Therefore, both universities and colleges can provide students with infrastructure that meets learning and development.
The Ministry of Education’s hard regulations on universities and colleges in terms of subjects, faculty, teaching and scientific research can be used as an important reference for students and parents when choosing colleges, but this cannot be used simply to determine the level of specific universities and colleges.
The soft power of the school’s industry influence, social influence, and graduate employment quality are also worth paying attention to. Some colleges that frequently enter the “strongest colleges in the industry” and “strongest colleges in the XX major” are proof of this. Therefore, only by recognizing the essential differences and making comprehensive judgments can we make the most suitable choice when filling out the application form.
