The internal friction angle can be understood in mechanics as the critical self-stability angle of the block on the inclined surface. Within this angle, the block is stable; if it is greater than this angle, the block will slide. Using this principle, the stability of the slope can be analyzed.

When filling earthwork, the dry density of the soil is often used to control the compaction standard of the soil.
