Recently, equipment insurance company Allstate Protection Plans conducted an drop test for iPhone 14 Plus and iPhone 14 Pro Max, hoping to figure out which device has suffered the most from drops.
This test was performed using "DropBot", a robot designed to help determine the fragility of the device after a single impact from a height of 6 feet.
iPhone 14 series
These devices are thrown on the sidewalk with face-down and back-down respectively without shells. Despite the protection of ultra-ceramic crystal panels, both phones suffered severe damage when they fell.
When the iPhone 14 Plus fell to the sidewalk face down, one side shattered, and a large number of loose glass fragments made it difficult for the phone to operate. But in contrast, the iPhone 14 Pro Max was more severely damaged, with larger bullseye cracks appearing on one side and corner.
When the back of the iPhone 14 Plus fell to the sidewalk face down, its camera shell was damaged and a bull's-eye crack appeared on one side. But the damage to the iPhone 14 Pro Max is even more terrifying, and it can be said to have suffered "disastrous damage". The back of its glass is completely broken and most of the glass falls completely off the device. In addition, the camera case was severely damaged.
In addition to the front and back facing down, this company also tried to experiment with falling on the phone when the side faces down. The damage was minimal when the iPhone 14 Plus dropped side-down onto a set of paved stairs—there were only a few wears in the corners. However, the iPhone 14 Pro Max is not doing that well, with cracked rear panels, worn edges and corners, sunken buttons, and damaged camera case.
After the experiment, the company pointed out that despite the damage, each device could still operate normally. Tests show that the iPhone 14 Pro Max is as fragile as the iPhone 13 Pro and the iPhone 12 Pro.
At the same time, it also points out the reason why the Plus model is more "sturdy", that is, the aluminum case of the iPhone 14 Plus seems to be more resistant to shock than the stainless steel case of the iPhone 14 Pro Max.
