Apple announced on Tuesday the new version of its iPad Pro, a completely redesigned regular iPad and Apple TV 4K updated version.
This release provides Apple with more new products for sale before the important holiday shopping season. New tablets could help companies boost iPad sales, down 14% in Apple's last holiday quarter and 2% in the latest quarter. They join Apple's latest iPhone 14, two new Apple Watch and the brand new AirPods Pro.
Redesigned iPad
All-new entry-level iPad is completely redesigned.
The home button at the bottom of the screen is gone, and is replaced by the fingerprint reader in the power button. It adopts a squarer design, similar to the iPad Air and iPad Pro, with a large 10.9-inch screen, USB-C replaces the Lightning interface, and is available in different colors such as red, yellow, blue and white.
Apple also announced a new iPad Magic Keyboard Case for $249, which has a stand, multi-touch trackpad and a magnetic connector for automatic charging. But Apple Pencil support is a bit strange.
The new iPad won't work with the better second-generation Apple Pencil, which charges on the side of the iPad Air, iPad mini, and iPad Pro. Since the new iPad uses a USB-C instead of a Lightning port (for charging the Apple Pencil on earlier models), you will need to buy a $9 USB-C to Lightning adapter to charge the Apple Pencil.
Apple will sell different configurations, including Wi-Fi only and WiFi + 5G cellular, but the starting price is $449, which is a lot more than the $329 price of the ninth-generation iPad. It can be ordered Tuesday and will be available in stores starting October 26.
Apple iPad Pro 2022
Like in recent years, the company will sell two sizes of iPad Pro: an 11-inch model and a larger 12.9-inch model with a better screen. The big change to the
iPad Pro is the new M2 processor, the same one that was launched in the MacBook Air earlier this year. Apple says it's 15% faster than the M1 processor used in the last iPad Pro launched in 2021.
Apple Pencil also works slightly differently on the new iPad Pro. The screen can now detect Pencil pen tips up to 12 mm from the screen surface. Apple said this will allow artists to sketch more accurately and make handwritten to text conversion faster. The
11-inch iPad Pro starts at $799, while the 12.9-inch model starts at $1,099. They can be ordered starting Tuesday and will be available to the store on October 26.
Apple TV 4K 2022
Apple TV 4K has a faster processor and is available in two models, one is the pure Wi-Fi version with 64GB of storage and the other is the Wi-Fi + Ethernet model, which allows for wired internet connection and has twice as much storage space.
streaming box adds support for HDR10+, another high dynamic range standard that should help improve image quality if provided by the TV it connects to, especially in dark scenes. Apple says the updated processor is 50% faster than previous versions and should speed up the loading of applications and games.
The new Apple TV 4K has the updated Siri Remote with standard USB-C charging capabilities, the same cables used to charge iPad and non-Apple products. The remote used to use Apple's proprietary Lightning connector.
The new Apple TV 4K starts at $129 and is available for ordering starting Tuesday. It landed in the store on November 4th.
