I believe that all careful friends can see that the OPPO Reno series and vivo S series positioned should be the same category, both mobile phones focusing on appearance and taking photos. To put it more bluntly, these two series should be considered competitors. Many friends are asking which Reno8 or S15 is better. The answer is obviously S15. Why do you say so?
Although the prices of Reno8 and S15 look similar, taking the same 12+256 version as an example, the current price of Reno8 is 2769, and the current price of S15 is 2999, with only a difference of more than 200, but whether it is the internal configuration of stacking materials or the external workmanship and texture, S15 is much better than Reno8, for example:
first, the screen of S15 is better than Reno8's
S15's screen is made of Samsung E4 material. Reno8 does not clearly tell whether it is a Samsung AMOLED screen. Even if it is a Samsung E4 screen, it is a little worse than the S15's screen. In terms of refresh rate, S15 has given a high refresh rate of 120Hz, while Reno8's screen is only 90Hz high refresh. Moreover, the JNCD value of the S15 screen is about 0.35 and the DeltaE value is about 0.45. It is a primary color screen that has been trained on one channel. It has both HDR10+ and SGS low blue light dual certification. The Reno8 screen is not that good.
second, the main camera of S15 is also better than the Reno8's
Reno8's main camera is 50 megapixels. According to its 1/1.55-inch large bottom parameters, it can be inferred that this should be the OV50A sensor of the Howie home, with AF automatic focus function, but does not have the OIS optical anti-shake effect. The main camera of the S15 is a Samsung GW1P sensor, with a 64-megapixel and a 1/1.72-inch bottom, and also has AF automatic focus function, but it is supported by OIS optical anti-shake.
Although theoretically, Reno8's main camera has better photosensitive ability because it has a larger bottom, the photography effect of the two is actually similar. Because the main camera of the S15 has OIS optical image stabilization, coupled with vivo's depth adjustment and the ISP algorithm of Snapdragon 870 better than Dimensity 1300, the main camera of the S15 is easier to capture better textured pictures.
The other rear lenses of both are just a numbered lens, so there is nothing to say.
Third, S15 has better texture
Although both of them use right-angle middle frame design, the materials used for the middle frame are different. The Reno8 and Reno8 Pro look very similar, but the former uses plastic middle frames, so don't be blinded by the visual effects. S15 uses aluminum alloy middle frames, which have much better texture and of course more weight. The weight of S15 reaches 197 grams, while Reno8 is as light as 179 grams.
fourth, S15 has better performance
This is actually the most important point in the difference between the two. Their memory and flash memory are both LPDDR4x+UFS3.1, and only the processors used are different. Reno8 uses Dimensity 1300, and S15 uses the peak version of Snapdragon 870. We know that Dimensity 1300 is actually similar to Dimensity 1200. Although it is TSMC's 6nm process, it is still crushed by TSMC's 7nm process Snapdragon 865 and Snapdragon 870. This shows that Dimensity 1300 is not even comparable to ordinary Snapdragon 870, let alone this peak version of Snapdragon 870.
Of course, this peak version of Snapdragon 870 is not much more than the public version of Snapdragon 870. The parameters are still the same. It may just be open and adapted to more advanced algorithms, so the S15's running score is a little higher than other Snapdragon 870 models with the same core configuration. Snapdragon 870 is a market-tested generation of Shen U, and is naturally much more reliable than Dimensity 1300.
In addition to these differences, the front lens and battery capacity of both are the same. The front lenses are both 32-megapixel single cameras and the battery capacity is 4500mah. The only advantageous and convenient thing about Reno8 is that it is equipped with the longevity version of 80W fast charging, which is indeed faster than the S15 in terms of charging speed. The S15 is only equipped with 66W wired fast charging, but the perception brought by both powers is not obvious. After all, it is only a dozen watts apart, and 66W is also a fast charging that most people can accept.
So to sum up, when the price of OPPO Reno8 and vivo S15 is similar, of course, choosing the latter is more cost-effective. What do you think? Welcome to interact in the comment section!
