This year's iPhone 14 series polarization is particularly obvious compared with previous years. The iPhone 14 Pro series gets new features such as a constant-lit display, a new 48MP camera sensor and so-called Singing Island.
However, the standard iPhone 14 does not, and it has almost no change. It doesn't even have a new processor, breaking years of tradition.
This doesn't mean that the iPhone 14 is a bad phone, it still performs better than all Android phones, while also having a top-notch camera system, and now offers a larger Plus model.
iPhone 14 Review start:
Appearance design
and iPhone 13 are similar in appearance design. The standard iPhone 14 has a design that is almost exactly the same as the iPhone 13. This is not necessarily a bad thing, I like the right-angle border design that debuted in the iPhone 12 series.
On the back, you'll still get the same diagonally aligned dual camera settings with a separate Apple logo in the middle. On the right side, you can still get the power button. At the bottom, you'll still get the Lightning port. And on the left, you can still get the volume buttons. The same goes for the front of
. Unfortunately, iPhone 14 retains the long-term bangs, is not like the iPhone 14 Pro series, and they have been upgraded to Lingdong Island.
Perhaps the only big difference in design is the color, the iPhone 14 has a new blue and a new purple.
Although the iPhone 14 looks the same as the iPhone 13, it is still a good-looking phone and it feels so advanced when you hold it in your hand. However, I still hope to see some changes in design in the next one or two years.
display
iPhone 14 is equipped with a 6.1-inch OLED display with a resolution of 2532 x 1170. This is the same as the iPhone 13, and again, it's not necessarily bad, the display looks pretty good, it's clear, colorful and offers a deep black.
You may notice that it still has bang notches. Now, I'm used to seeing this bang notch. It is indeed a bit regrettable that ProMotion is not supported. Unfortunately, this is still limited to Pro devices only. I hope Apple will downgrade it to a standard iPhone model next year.
Also, unlike Pro, you won't get the all-weather display feature.
core performance
is different from iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max. The standard iPhone 14 insists on using Apple A15 chipset. This breaks Apple's tradition of providing chipset upgrades to all models over the years.
Now, it should be clear that the A15 is an excellent chipset, which is enough for most current use cases. But the fact that it still owns last year’s chip also means that it won’t perform as strong as the iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max. This could also mean that the software update that will cut it off a year ahead of the Pro model.
However, the core performance of the standard iPhone 14 model is still upgraded, with the A15 having one more GPU core than the A15 in the iPhone 13, although it is hard to imagine that this will make a huge difference.
In daily use, the iPhone 14 performs well, and it can easily handle all daily tasks, including some mobile games, heavy multitasking, and more. It's safe to say that it can handle everything you need now and in the next few years.
It is worth mentioning that iPhone 14 provides some other sensors and features, the device has a new collision detection feature, which uses the new accelerometer and gyroscope sensor to sense whether you may have a car accident and automatically make a rescue call.
Camera
iPhone 14 provides a camera system similar to iPhone 13. They are not exactly the same, and the new model should take better images, but the iPhone 14 won't fundamentally improve images compared to the iPhone 13.
iPhone 14 is equipped with a dual camera system, a 12MP pixel f/1.5 aperture main camera and a 12MP pixel f/2.4 aperture ultra-wide-angle camera. The device has a larger sensor, which should increase depth and better capture light.
The camera also uses Apple 's new "photon engine" image processing technology, which Apple said will help achieve better low-light performance compared to iPhone 13. In fact, the low-light images taken on the iPhone 14 model really look good, with better details than the iPhone 13.
has also been upgraded in the front, and the iPhone 14 has received new autofocus on the selfie camera, as well as a larger aperture. Combining these, the overall selfie will be better, especially in terms of clarity and detail.
Battery life
According to Apple, the battery of the iPhone 14 is slightly better than that of the iPhone 13, but don't expect huge changes. Apple said the iPhone 14 can play up to 20 hours of video, more than 19 hours of iPhone 13 models.
Although these are quite controllable situations, in daily use, the iPhone 14 does provide stable battery life. It can easily spend a whole day or even heavier use, and I usually have about 30% left at the end of the day. The charging speed of
has not changed, it is still 20W, and it takes nearly 2 hours to fully charge.
has not changed much, but it is still an excellent flagship phone
Overall, compared with iPhone 13, iPhone 14 has not changed much, almost the same appearance design, and the upgrades in screen, camera, and battery life are also minimal.
However, iPhone 14 is still an excellent flagship phone. If you are using iPhone 11 or earlier, or have not used an Apple phone, then iPhone 14 will give you an unparalleled silky experience.
