IT Home November 2nd news, tonight, the first batch of Apple TV 4K (2022 model) has been lifted. Some commentators said that Apple will increase support for fast media switching variable refresh rate (QMS VRR) through tvOS software update.
QMS VRR can prevent black screen from happening when switching between content played by in different frame rate. Users who have turned on the Frame Rate Match Content setting may be familiar with this situation, "because it happens almost when the actual show or movies of most apps stream start playing."
"The third generation of Apple TV 4K has another point of future proof: later this year, software updates will add support for so-called QMS VRR. This allows compatible TVs to switch between different frame rates without any black screen or obvious picture interruptions. How many TVs can use QMS VRR? Well, it's zero at the moment. But you'll see them coming to the market starting next year."
It's worth noting that QMS VRR doesn't prevent black screens when switching between color spaces or HDR content. The new video quality feature is set to be added via tvOS software update. It is unclear whether the feature will also appear on the second-generation Apple TV 4K, which is possible, as the device introduced support for high-frame rate HDR content last year, up to 60FPS and HDMI 2.1.
IT Home learned that the main new features of the Apple TV 4K (2022 model) include the A15 Bionic chip, supports HDR10+, priced from US$129 (about RMB 928), up to 128GB of storage space, a thinner and lighter fanless design, and a newer Siri remote control.
