As we all know, our country is a manufacturing power in the traditional sense. Whether it is high-speed rail, shield machine , or aerospace, we have the capital to be proud of. Only in the field of semiconductor chip , domestic companies are still highly dependent on overseas markets. The main reason for this situation is that our industrialization started late, and the concept of " comprador " is popular.
According to public data, in the past three years, my country has spent an average of US$400 billion on importing chips every year, far exceeding the import volume of oil, and chips have also become China's largest imported commodity.
As the saying goes, "know yourself and your enemy, and you will win every battle." Bai Zhenhua is even more familiar with this. In order to curb the rapid development of high-tech in my country, the United States has repeatedly revised the rules, resulting in the development of Chinese companies such as , Huawei, , and SMIC. Especially Huawei, since TSMC was unable to manufacture the Kirin 9000 chip for it, the Huawei mobile business has almost halved, and the market share that was vacant was also handed over to Apple .
It is precisely because of the pain of "bottleneck" that the domestic market has completely awakened from the nightmare of "comprador" and has started one round after another of self-research waves. The key is that many technology companies, including Alibaba , Xiaomi , Lenovo , etc., have joined the team of independent chip development.
Hard work pays off. In just two years, the domestic semiconductor chip industry has shown vitality. Whether it is EDA software, lithography machine , etching machine, or photoresist and other materials, our industrial chain has made great breakthroughs. At least in terms of mature process technology such as 28nm, there is no need to look at the faces of overseas companies anymore.
According to data, from January to September this year, the total number of chips imported by my country was 417.13 billion, a year-on-year decrease of 12.8%, and the import volume of semiconductor manufacturing equipment also fell by 6.9% year-on-year, which is equivalent to the cumulative cut of 61 billion chips by Chinese companies. The above data not only proves that the domestic market is reducing the "dependence" on chip imports, but also proves that the efforts of Chinese companies to develop their own chips have not been in vain. What is even more exciting is that domestic companies have also found new breakthroughs in advanced process chips. According to official media reports, the first "multi-size, cross-material" photonic chip production line in China will be completed in Beijing next year. It can be said that once this photonic chip production line is completed, domestic semiconductor companies may no longer rely on ASML EUV lithography machines and also energy to produce high-performance chips.
In addition, my country's packaging and testing manufacturer Tongfu Microelectronics has also achieved 5nm process capability certification in core particle technology, promoting the great development of domestic CPUs, GPU and server chips.
It is worth mentioning that Tongfu Microelectronics also received an "olive branch" from chip giant AMD, and the two parties signed a five-year contract. Obviously, under a series of bans in the United States, the US chip giants can no longer withstand it.
It is precisely because of this that the US media said that we blocked a "lostness". Whether it is modifying the rules or locking Chinese companies such as Huawei, , ZTE, and into a "small black room", it has not curbed the rapid development of China's high-tech, but has instead promoted the progress of their semiconductor companies. The key is that the US chip market has been backfired, and this approach is undoubtedly "shot yourself in the foot."
