Make a USB installation U disk (using ISO)

Simply put, there are two steps: format the U disk (so we need to prepare an idle U disk), and unzip the ISO directly to the root directory of the U disk.

However, practice is always more troublesome.

If the purpose of obtaining ISO is only to use it to make an installation U disk, then, for Windows 10 and Windows 11, there is no need to be so troublesome. We can make it directly through the tool, please see below "Make USB installation U disk (using official tools)" section.

The install.wim in the ISO of Windows XP and Windows 7 32-bit is no more than 4GB, and the install.wim in the ISO of Windows 7 64-bit and later versions is more than 4GB. Why 4GB? Please see the table below.

Reinstall with a USB flash drive
