VIA Labs, Inc. (VLI), today released the VL830 USB4 terminal device. USB4 is a major update to the USB architecture, enabling multiple simultaneous data and display protocols to share a high-speed link, supporting maximum aggregate bandwidth 40Gbps. VL830 provides both USB and DisplayPort functions. When used with Thunderbolt 4 or USB4 systems, it can still achieve full performance operation, and it is also backward compatible with previous generation devices, such as laptops, tablets and mobile phones, and supports USB Type-C DisplayPort alternate mode.

Compared with the DisplayPort alternate mode via USB Type-C, VIA Labs VL830 USB4 terminal device can provide up to twice the video bandwidth and support an 8K 60 Hz high dynamic at the same time A range of displays and multiple USB 3.2 Gen2 devices, depending on the capabilities of the host system. When paired with a DisplayPort Multi-Stream Transport hub, it can support multiple 4K or high refresh rate displays while still enjoying fast SuperSpeed ​​USB Data transmission.

VL830 integrates a USB 3.2 Gen 2 hub with five downstream ports and a DisplayPort 1.4a output, which can fully utilize the 40 Gbps bandwidth provided by USB4.

VL830 adopts a compact FCCSP 10 mm x 10 mm package. Early applications have been seen in USB-C docking stations, multi-function adapters and other product categories.
