How do you prevent slipping when driving in winter? Some people say that four-wheel drive is a must, but don’t be too superstitious about that—a two-wheel drive with winter tires has much better grip than a four-wheel drive with all-season tires!

I have to admit that living in Beijing, I didn’t have any special anti-skid measures in winter. Anyway, the snow can’t accumulate, so just drive slowly. However, I will still be frightened by black ice occasionally in the shade. Later, I moved to the suburbs of Shunyi outside the Fifth Ring Road and found that the road management here was a bit slow in clearing snow. If it snowed at night, there would still be a lot of uncleared snow on many roads the next morning. This doesn't matter to me, but my father-in-law often takes care of the baby in the morning, which makes Mr. Du a little worried. In order to improve the safety factor, I took advantage of the discount to install winter tires on one of my cars in the past two years.

In fact, changing to winter tires is mandatory by law in many European countries, and they must be replaced when the temperature is below 7 degrees. For example, someone once lamented that there are so many and Mercedes-Benz s with black steel rims in Germany. In fact, it has nothing to do with the simplicity of consumption. They just use winter tires + the cheapest rims. Why not use original rims? Because the labor cost of tire removal in Europe is extremely expensive, one time costs hundreds of euros, and it costs a lot to replace it twice a year! It is better to go to the warehouse supermarket to buy a set of winter tire assemblies with rings, throw them in the storage room, and use the jack to jack up the car yourself before replacing them. This will save money!

As for domestic people, they generally don’t buy a set of special rims. They just find a corner of the garage and throw them away. When the weather gets cold, they just take them to a tire shop to replace them. The labor cost is low anyway. However, the labor costs in Beijing have increased a bit strangely recently. For example, when production and work resumed in early December, I took the four winter tires and ran to the tire store. Unexpectedly, the price rose to 50 yuan per tire, and the price was the same for several stores!

Actually, we can’t tolerate it being more expensive. After all, everything is expensive now. But the problem is that one of the stores I frequent has a price list on the wall, and the all-inclusive price for regular tire repairs is only 30 yuan. It is obviously easier to replace a tire, but the fee is more expensive... I feel unhappy, but I have no choice but to change it. Anyway, with this increase in labor costs, domestic car owners will eventually have to escape the seemingly wasteful European consumption-go shopping for a set of special steel rims for winter tires.
