High-end household MPV is considered to be the most suitable model for families with multiple families, and the market has proven this, mainly reflected in two aspects. On the one hand, it is more "friendly" to models already on the market. Buick GL8 has evolved from a single model into a family of models. Honda Odyssey and Trumpchi M8 have always maintained high market popularity; on the other hand, it gives latecomers the opportunity to prove themselves. Opportunity, after being launched for a period of time, GAC Toyota Sienna has gradually grown into a powerful player in this market segment.
Recently, GAC Toyota announced the market performance of this car this year on the occasion of the first anniversary of the Chinese name of " Senna ". Data shows that from January to May this year, Senna sold a total of 28,015 vehicles. Among the cumulative sales, the sales volume of the top-end platinum version model (priced at 405,800 yuan) accounted for 33%. In single-month sales, Senna climbed to 7,635 units in May this year.
In fact, Toyota is one of the pioneers in China's high-end home MPV market. Alpha has been sold in China as an imported car for many years, and the market terminal supply exceeds demand. However, due to the low supply of Alfa and the high pricing of imported cars, Toyota's overall performance in the domestic high-end home MPV market has been tepid. This situation did not change until the domestically produced Senna.
As of now, Senna only offers hybrid systems. This change has caused a lot of worries, but in terms of market sales, this worry is unnecessary. Senna will be officially launched on the market on October 30, 2021. It will take half a year to increase monthly sales to "7000+". This is not an easy task. In particular, it has withstood the test of external environmental factors such as production capacity ramp-up, supply chain tension, and the Spring Festival.
Sina's market performance has attracted great attention from competitors. In June this year, SAIC-GM Buick released for the first time its new flagship model of the MPV family - GL8 Century. At the 2022 GAC "Technology Day", GAC Research Institute also released its new MPV concept car - Greenland. At the same time, according to the plan, by the end of this year, GAC Trumpchi will refresh the M8, and the new model will be equipped with the "Julang Hybrid".
In the past two years, in an environment where the overall performance of the auto market has been average, high-end household MPVs have bucked the trend and grown. Sales data shows that in 2021, the market share of high-end household MPVs reached 22.53%, an increase of 2.56 percentage points from 2020.
Senna is far from the last "contestant" to enter the high-end household MPV market. In addition to Trumpchi, independent brands such as Lantu, Roewe , BYD , Changan are all making corresponding new car plans. The introduction of these new cars to the market will obviously intensify competition in this market segment. Of course, for family consumers, this is obviously a good thing: not only do they have more models to choose from, but they can also pursue maximizing user rights.
