In the oriental world of Buddhism, a bhikshuni from London, England Danjin Palmo (Tenzin Palmo) _span _strong, with the blood of Tenzin Palmo (Tenzin Palmo) _span 16 strong in the background The twelve years of experience and the deeds of aspiring women becoming Buddhas have attracted the attention and curiosity of the world.
What exactly did the 12-year retreat have achieved?
Danjin Pamo said: "It’s not about what you have gained? It’s about what you have lost?" Is the realization of perfection,However, our delusions often make ourselves invisible to what we already have. All the problems in the world are caused by people not being able to sit quietly in the room. Her life's plan is to gain enlightenment and keep practicing to stabilize the enlightenment in her heart. Whenever I think of her practicing in the snow cave for twelve years, this thought is comforting.
Danjin Palmo was born and grew up in London at the age of eighteen and became a Buddhist at the age of twenty. He became a Buddhist at the age of twenty. The first Western disciples of the VIII Kanchu Ningbo Car.
After she became a monk, she practiced in Himalayas for 20 years. In recent years, she has traveled around the world to preach the Dharma, raising funds to build bhikkhuni monasteries in North India: Dongyu Gatsal Ling .

I was born during the Second World War,He grew up in London and started to learn about Buddhism in the early 1960s, when he was a teenager, and later found out that he had some connection with Tibetan Buddhism, and the Western society at that time knew almost nothing about it.
When I was twenty, I went to work in Dahushi, India. There is a small school founded for the reincarnated lama by a lady named Feida Beidi. manage. On my 21st birthday, I met the Honorable Khamchu Rinpoche in India. Three weeks later, I became a monk and became a monk.
Khamchu Rinpoche is the leader of a Tibetan Buddhist group. There are 130 monks in this group and about 400 lay people. I am Khamchu Rinpoche’s secretary, and Teach young monks to learn English.
A few years later, this sangha moved to its current location, a place called Tashi Zong. Then Rinpoche told me that I should go to Rahu in the Himalayas to retreat and practice more deeply. So, I went there and lived in the pagoda, a small monastery of the Kagyu sect.
Lahur is located in the Himalayas at an altitude of about 11 thousand feet. It is isolated from other parts of India by snow for six to eight months of the year. I stayed in Tayu Pagoda for about six years, but later felt that I needed a more secluded place, so I moved to a cave.
The cave is about an hour away from the temple.I have lived in the cave for twelve years, and usually every fall I go down to Tashi Dzong to visit Kanchu Rinpoche. For the last three years, I have more strict retreats.
In 1988, I left India and went to Assisi, Italy, where I lived with friends on the hillside outside this medieval town.
A few years later, I returned to India to teach the reincarnated young Kanchu Rinpoche to learn English when he was twelve years old. Around that time, some Rinpoche in Khampagar asked me to start a nun because there was no monastery for women. It's easy to see this when living in Rahu.
Because the bhikkhus in the monastery all hold the offering ceremony in the front, accept the teachings, and are closed for a long time, and the bhikkhus usually can only stay in the kitchen behind to cook and do chores. There are many bhikkhus who are very intelligent and pious, but have no chance to receive education or practice higher teachings.
Obviously, it is useless to lament this fact without taking action to improve the situation. Therefore, when the lamas asked me to run a nun, I recalled that the eighth Khamchu Rinpoche had said several times on different occasions that he suggested that I run a nun. Put it aside, now is the time.
So I went all over Asia,To prepare for the planning of the nuns, give lectures everywhere, hoping to get support. This task is not easy, because I have no personal connections, and I am not a high-ranking lama. However, people gradually expressed their support for this plan. Many people said that for many years everyone has only donated money to monasteries and bhikkhus, and I was the first person to talk about bhikshuni!
About this period, Vicky McKenzie asked me to agree to write my life story, especially the years experienced in the snow cave, so the book "Snow Cave" was published later. publishing. Vicky described an obscure retreat experience as a fascinating story with a brilliant pen, and it caused great repercussions from many readers of different backgrounds! This book also made the hardships and difficulties faced by bhikshuni more widely known to the world.
Our nun is specially set up for the girls from the Himalayas span_strong_span_strong. ), Nepal, Kinnaur, and Spiti. The local bhikkhuni traditionally have no opportunity to receive education. Although there are often bhikkhunis in Tibet who have the opportunity to become good practitioners, they In the border areas, the treatment of bhikkhus is actually only slightly better than those of servants who serve in the family or monastery.
Although they are pious, they are not educated, and they often pray that they will be born as males in the next life, so as to obtain all kinds of conveniences for learning Dharma.
In the past,It is often extremely difficult for women to get the opportunity to receive teachings or be teachers, but this situation is gradually changing in the entire Buddhist world, because women, who account for half of the world's population, have gradually recognized their needs.
In Western society and contemporary Asia, this problem is less serious. Women are highly educated and have good expression skills. They can read as they please and have the opportunity to participate in various courses, gender The restriction no longer exists. Our most fundamental Buddha nature, the veiled original face, is neither male nor female. All the men and women in the world who suffer from unconsciousness in the world are actually suffering from greed, anger, ignorance, slowness, Suspected of the five poisons, if women have these difficulties, men must also face them. This is the fundamental insufficiency of reincarnation. There will always be various realms to test us, but these are the opportunities for us to learn and grow. .
It is said that women are more emotional than men. Their moods are fluctuating and their responses to events often dance with emotions rather than through rational speculation. Regardless of whether this is a stereotype based on a male point of view, from a positive perspective, when these emotions are controlled to a certain extent, rather than controlling others, it can release a certain powerful energy to drive female practitioners. Let them make faster progress and higher achievements in the path of pursuing the truth than those male companions who are more cautious and show off knowledge. Some Asian meditation teachers told me that women are easy to get into the situation when meditation, and they are not afraid of the transcendental and intuitive characteristics of the mind during meditation. They feel at ease in the unknown void.
Buddhism is a path that encompasses body, speech, and mind. The basic teachings of Dharma are the same today as they were 2,500 years ago. It is still closely related to life and is true and reliable. The basic view of Buddhism transcends social customs and beliefs, and for people with an open mind, it can penetrate people's hearts. To be able to hear such profound truths and Dharma is really an indescribable redemption of life, because it transcends the logical thinking of our daily lives and leads people into a world that is both paradoxical and completely reasonable.
When we are in a busy and stressful life, we tend to overemphasize material success and specific rewards, but the human heart feels relatively hollow and meaningless. Those who are willing to think about life are increasingly aware that they have a deep hunger and thirst within themselves, hoping to find something that can truly satisfy their lives. Therefore, under the appearance of exoticism and mystery, there is a sincere force to pursue the meaning of life. That is where the Dharma is presented. We want to know how to be happy, peaceful, kind and understanding. We need to understand how to be kind. Cleverly handle the relationship with family and interpersonal, as well as our work and social life.
Traditionally, Buddhism mainly belongs to "professionals", referring to the Sangha group composed of sangha, these people decide to abandon the secular family life and career, and follow their own beliefs. Devoting all his energy to studying, practicing, and teaching the Dharma, so that the Dharma can be passed on from generation to generation in a long period of time and has flourished to this day. Generally speaking, the role played by the layman is to live a clean and good life by observing the precepts and supporting the Sangha to devote himself to the life of the Dharma. Of course, there have always been some lay scholars and practitioners, especially in certain lineages, but the Sangha is still regarded as the maintainer and preserver of the teachings of Buddhism.
now,Due to the spread of Dharma to the West, most people who practice and study Dharma are lay people, not just ordained sanghas. Such a change is naturally likely to have a certain impact on how people view Buddhism and how Buddhism is passed on. For those who have secular fetters or lead a family life, the attractiveness of Buddhism to them will be greatly reduced. I have also noticed that when I talk to other bhikkhus or bhikkhuni, I will say some ideas that I avoid talking to the lay people because I am worried that these words will hurt them. From this point of view, the focus of Buddhism will undergo a certain transformation.
Most people who pursue the Dharma in the West or modern Asia do not have the proper environment or time to practice meditation for ten days. Taking courses is already the limit that most people desire.
Sometimes people ask me whether it is really necessary to have a whole year of retreat in order to gain enlightenment. I often don’t know how to answer so that they will not be exposed to the world because of the world. Fetters, and feel frustrated or resentful. At the moment when I write this passage, my heart is still inconclusive.
In fact, when the Buddha was a prince, he found it necessary to leave the palace, his wife, and his newborn son. After his enlightenment, he did not return to the past mundane life, but encouraged Others renounce everything in the world.
Great practitioners have always spent decades in retreat. Some people practice strict abstinence throughout their lives. In order to realize the truth of Buddhism.
Even home practitioners often spend many years living in seclusion or meditating in caves before they get married. Even if they are married, these practitioners have become scholars and traditional doctors. Or yogis at home are dedicated to pursuing the essence of Dharma. They live in a more leisurely and undisturbed society. They do not need to go to the office or factory every day, nor do they have very different worldviews and research interests with their colleagues.
Long-term retreat can develop a person's inner world, and the soul is fully integrated into the practice. The great masters are not practising the Dharma, they are the Dharma themselves.
Therefore, we need to adjust the Dharma to suit our current environment and needs. Because most people who are close to the Dharma today are not ready to give up the way of life in front of them, they must practice in a skillful way so that they can integrate it into their hearts and lives.
I personally think that in this overly complex and stressful modern world, what we need is simplicity, not complicated visual rituals and philosophical sophistry.
These methods are suitable for relatively simple cultures (for example, in traditional society, there is no TV, radio, newspaper, magazine or novel),But the modern mind is not a blank canvas, ready to be able to engrave complicated patterns at any time.
Our hearts are filled with all kinds of garbage, so we need to go through some cleaning before we can get some spiritual space.
Therefore, I suggest that people practice the basic principles of Dharma, such as six paramita , which can be used as alms, precepts, forbearance, diligence, etc. in our daily life. The principles of meditation and wisdom, which are hard to nurture, can transform the worldly life into continuous diligent practice of the Dharma. Of course, righteous thoughts or the power of current awareness have always been helpful. Is there anything more suitable for us to practice loving-kindness and great compassion than our family and colleagues around us?
It is easy for Westerners to treat meditation as a kind of psychological treatment in order to make themselves feel comfortable. However, the purpose of meditation should be to give us direct insight into the nature and emptiness of all thoughts and emotions, and the subject and the viewer themselves are also emptiness.
Our memories, psychological problems, trauma and depressed parts are actually empty,They are neither me nor mine. The essence of pure consciousness is not any self-centered psychological prejudice.
The purpose of meditation is not just to make us feel comfortable or to solve emotional problems. The role of meditation is to directly cut off the most fundamental problems of life _strong The concept of thinking, and obsessed with the self, this way of thinking is derived from wrong perceptions, and this is the source of all errors.
If you want to walk on an unknown path safely, it is best to have a reliable guide. The best guide book or map in the world can't contain all the trails, forked roads or obstacles. Even with the best initial intention, we can easily get lost.
Of course, the person who is a guide must have a complete grasp of all the paths. Caution.
In the same way, on the path of practice, a person who is looking for a teacher himself has experienced direct enlightenment, study of classic texts, and experience of following a certain master.
The teacher's understanding of the students must be better than the students' self-understanding.It is not enough for a teacher to be charismatic or witty, and it is not enough for a teacher to be famous and have a large following.
Sometimes the greatest guru looks very ordinary on the outside and lives an unknown life because these guru tend to avoid fame and many disciples.
In the modern world, it is difficult to judge who is the true spiritual master who is capable of guiding others on the spiritual practice. What is the atmosphere around this teacher? How are his students interacting with each other? Observe the disciples who have followed this teacher for twenty years, and see how they behave, do they show truly amazing qualities, rather than just more knowledge? Are they more kind, compassionate, harmonious, peaceful, and wise than ordinary people? Or at least more advanced than when they were practicing? Is this the goal we are pursuing? We need to find out what is his or her reputation besides this teacher and his admirers? We should not innocently entrust our hearts to others.
Besides, a teacher who is suitable for one person may not necessarily be suitable for others. Practicing is a very personal matter, and it is determined by various factors.
This kind of thing is usually detected by the mind instinctively, but it still needs to be verified by reason. The spiritual guru is the one who can point out our original awareness before we were born; the spiritual guru is the Dharmakaya, which is the essence of our spiritual enlightenment, because everyone is a manifestation of the Dharmakaya. To meet such a teacher,Need to have a long history of karma and ardent desire. However, we still have to keep our feet on the ground and diligently work hard on the road.
Dharma persists in the world, and even in modern times, it can still be realized. There are many excellent books and meditation centers related to Buddhism. We can learn many things from various channels without the need to follow the first teacher we meet throughout our lives. All teachers should be regarded as spiritual friends in different faces-they don't necessarily always sit on tall thrones!
We certainly don’t want to wait until we meet the "Master" before embarking on the path of practising the Dharma, and our current mind is so headstrong and rough. Even if we meet the Buddha himself, it won’t be too big. help.
So we must prepare our hearts first in order to receive the blessings and realizations in the practice, and then at the moment of need, a suitable teacher will appear.
