Yu Buddhist Temple is located on the east side of Xiaoli Village, Huwang Village, Huangji Township, Huaiyang District, Zhoukou City, Henan Province. It was first built in 638 AD under the order of Tang Taizong Li Shimin. The temple is also famous in the Central Plains because Li Shimin was saved by Guanyin Bodhisattva and turned disaster into victory. In gratitude, he personally inscribed the name of the temple with his own pen. For more than a thousand years, yufo Temple has been an important place of Buddhism in eastern Henan. It is prosperous and attracts pilgrims. Good men and women from all over the world come with requests and return with great reputations. Avalokitesvara Bodhisattva enjoys the highest honor in this temple. During the Anti-Japanese War and the Liberation War, the Japanese invaders and the Kuomintang bandits destroyed the Yufo Temple.
In 1999, the great monk Shi Miaowen, who had been a monk since childhood, said goodbye to Taibaiding Yuntai Zen Temple where he had practiced for decades, returned to his hometown, and rebuilt Yufo Temple. After going through countless hardships, Yufo Temple was able to regain its former glory. Its achievements are astonishing and its virtues are renowned in the Central Plains.
