According to historical records, after the Yellow River crossed Jincheng Pass, it gradually widened and reached two or three kilometers to its east. The river surface widens, the water flow slows down, and mud and sand accumulate in the downstream, making it a long-term beach. The wide river surface is divided into several branches of various sizes by gradually formed beaches. These beaches are the original shape of Yantan.

Before the Ming Dynasty, the beach was surrounded by rivers, and the reeds and grasses were lush and flourishing. They were the place where geese lived and distributed, so they were called "Yantan". Over the years, the beach area gradually became large pieces of land. By the end of the Ming Dynasty, people began to reclaim these beach area into fields and settled here, so there were villages and fireworks.

As time goes by, the beach area has formed eighteen pieces of different sizes and separated by river water. According to the size of the beach area, the surname and location of the residents, it is named "Tanjianzi", "Zhangsutan", "Fujiatan", "Junjiatan", "Songjiatan", "Dayantan", "Cameltan", etc.

In the early stage of liberation, the main river of the Yellow River was divided into two north and south roads at the Ganjianzi. The Beihe ran northeast along Yanchang Fort, and the Nanhe flowed to Duanjiatan. The remaining central beaches are divided into several small streams, and the two larger ones are called "Zhonghe" and "Shawahe". Water trucks irrigate the fields on the beach, and there is no worries when the water volume is sufficient. If drought or water level drops, the source of water required for irrigation will be cut off and farmers' harvest will be cut off. Or it may rain heavily and the water level soars for days, flooding will overflow on the beach, flooding will not only be flooded, but also houses will be buried in the source of the past. Although the harvest of farmers living on Yantan is uncertain, it is more convenient to follow the riverside, so the Yantan area has continued.

In the 1990s, the entire Nanhe River began to clear the river channel, clearing all the silt and garbage in the river channel, and re-lined the river channel. The broken Yellow River water finally re-entered the river channel, and the original sewage was washed and diluted by the river water, which made some improvements. However, this time the river cleaning was only carried out from the inside of the river. Although the original dirt was removed, factories and workshops along the river still existed because the circulation of river water can take away sewage, and the wastewater from these factories was even more unrestrained than when they were originally stagnant. Soon, the river water returned to its turbid appearance from clear to its turbid appearance, and the smell was still difficult to enter the nose and was extremely dirty. I thought that the governance would make the Nanhe River regain its purity and peace, but I never thought that the pace of social development would leave this lonely small river.

In 2005, the management of the Nanhe Channel was officially launched. Almost all small factories and workshops that discharge sewage along the route were closed. The land acquisition and demolition of nearby villages and land promoted the construction of the riverside tour path on both sides of the Nanhe Channel, and the silt and debris in the river were completely cleared, and the river channel was rebuilt. Roads were connected on both sides of the river channel, and as many as 18 bridges were built on the entire Nanhe Channel, and then both sides of the river channel were gradually greened. It took a year for the entire Nanhe River to be re-opened. After a long time of absence, the yellowish Yellow River finally reappeared. The subsequent second phase of the treatment was also quickly launched, intercepting all the original underground sewage pipelines and integrating them into a unified sewage pipeline, and from then on there will be no intersection with the Nanhe Channel.

South River has become a unique style line in the east of Yantan. Starting from the Water Park, it passes through the sports park and furniture market along the route, extends to the Dongtou Yaner Bay, and then meets the Yellow River again.
