Infertile families can "borrow sperm to give birth"
Central Hospital is approved for trial operation of artificial insemination for sperm
Yuncheng Evening News (Reporter Wang Yao) Recently, the Department of Reproductive Medicine of Central Hospital successfully passed the scene of national human assisted reproductive technology experts Review and get approval for trial operation to develop artificial insemination (AID) technology for sperm. This means that families whose husband is infertile can legally "borrow sperm to give birth to children" and thus have their own children.
At present, due to changes in people's lifestyles and the development of modern industrialization, the proportion of infertility patients is getting higher and higher. Data show that the infertility rate of couples of childbearing age in my country is 9%. Many originally happy families have been overshadowed by infertility. Infertile couples are under tremendous pressure from society and family.
Artificial insemination (AI) refers to an assisted reproductive technology (ART) that uses non-sexual intercourse to send sperm to the female reproductive tract to conceive the woman. According to the source of its sperm, AI can be divided into artificial insemination (AIH) from husband's sperm and artificial insemination (AID) from third-party sperm. Assisted reproductive technology involves many issues such as medicine, society, ethics, and law, and is a special clinical diagnosis and treatment technology with restricted applications. The state strictly supervises and implements it in a standardized manner. The Central Hospital is currently the only medical institution in our city that is approved by the state to develop human assisted reproductive technology.
It is reported that all the sperm for artificial insemination comes from the sperm bank. The frozen semen in the sperm bank is strictly screened. The sperm donors are healthy men without chromosomal abnormalities or infectious diseases. According to relevant national laws, patients can never inquire about the exact identity of the donor, and the patient’s couple can have a range of choices for the donor, such as blood type, height, education, etc. Children born through artificial insemination with donor sperm have normal rights and obligations. If a woman receiving artificial insemination from donor sperm obtains the consent of her husband, then her husband shall be legally the father of the child born by artificial insemination from donor sperm. Children born by donors (including those with birth defects) enjoy the same legal rights and obligations as children who are conceived or given birth naturally.
This review expert group is organized by the Provincial Health Commission, and its members include five national human assisted reproductive technology experts including Professor Guo Yihong from the Reproductive Center of the First Affiliated Hospital of Zhengzhou University and Professor Tong Xianhong from the Reproductive Center of the First Affiliated Hospital of University of Science and Technology of China. During the review, the experts also conducted a second on-site verification of the husband's sperm artificial insemination technology and IVF technology that have been officially operated in the Central Hospital.
Since 2014, the Department of Reproductive Medicine of the Central Hospital has been approved to operate husband's sperm artificial insemination technology and IVF technology. From October 2018 to September 2020, the hospital completed 1207 cycles of IVF, of which 677 cycles were fresh cycles, with a clinical pregnancy rate of 65.29%; thawing cycles were 530 cycles, with a clinical pregnancy rate of 60.61%.
