Recently, the Chinese Nutrition Society Law and Standard Working Committee organized and approved the issuance of the "Diet Guidance for Women in Puerperal Period" (T/CNSS 014-2022). A scientific diet can help mothers heal their childbirth, recover their physiologically, and recover their body, and secrete milk more smoothly.

Puerperal period is commonly known as "confinement period". It refers to a period from placenta to the time when the mother recovers from the breasts, except for the breasts, or is close to the normal unpregnant state. It is generally 6 weeks (42 days).

In principle, food should be diversified during confinement, and there is no need to taboo special food. On the basis of meeting the dietary guidelines for the general population, it is recommended to do this:

1 Add high-quality protein food

Preferred seafood, choose iodized salt

0 more eggs, fish and livestock and poultry lean meat than before pregnancy, and increase a total of 50g-100g, so that the total daily amount of these three types of animal food reaches 175g-225g.

Eat animal liver 1-2 times a week, eat fish 1-2 times a week (100g-150g each time, preferably sea fish), eat kelp or seaweed or wakame and other algae (100g fresh kelp or 5g dried seaweed) at the same time, and choose iodine salt to cook food.

2 Foods are diverse but not in excess

Continue throughout the lactation period

0 The food composition types of food that are balanced during the puerperal period should include grains, fish, poultry, eggs, vegetables and fruits, beans and their products, milk and their products, etc. The average food variety consumed every day should reach more than 20 types, more than 30 types per week, and the total intake of various types of food should be controlled within the recommended range (see the table below for details).

3 Avoid smoking, alcohol,

Avoid strong tea and coffee,

Don’t smoke, stay away from smoking environments, and avoid wet nurses from contacting first-hand or second-hand smoke. Avoid drinking too strong tea and coffee.

For different stages of postpartum, the recommended food properties are different:

01

A few days after delivery, it should be less greasy and easy to digest. Noodle slices, noodles , wontons, porridge, steamed or boiled eggs, and boiled meat and vegetables are the best choices.

02

02

If there is a perineal tear injury of degree I or degree II and is sutured in time during delivery, you can give it a normal diet; after the Ⅲ-degree tear injury is sutured, you should first have no residue or less residue (such as rice soup, noodle soup, juice, broth, lotus root powder, rice porridge, batter, tofu, egg custard , meat paste, etc.) for about a week.

03

For mothers with cesarean section, oil-free liquid or semi-liquid are generally given after the operation, such as rice porridge, millet porridge, noodle slices, etc. It is avoided to use milk, soy milk, and bloating foods containing a lot of sucrose. After the anus is exhausted, semi-liquid can be restored and will be converted to a normal diet after 2-3 days.

04 For mothers who have a more complicated situation, follow the doctor's diet.

In addition to this, there are also some considerations in meal arrangement and cooking methods. It is recommended to have a regular meal 3 times a day, add 2-3 times, and try to use the fried, fried and roasted cooking methods as little as possible. If the diet cannot be balanced, you can take dietary supplements, such as vitamins, minerals and dietary fiber supplements under the guidance of a doctor.

Guidance on soup soup during confinement

is as follows:

In order to ensure sufficient drinking water, you can drink more soup according to your personal dietary habits, such as chicken soup, fish soup, rib soup, pig trotter soup, tofu soup, , tofu soup, etc., which helps increase dietary comfort and replenish moisture.

study shows that postpartum weight retention is closely related to the occurrence and development of obesity, cardiovascular disease and 2 diabetes for mothers of childbearing age. Under normal circumstances, the mother's weight will drop significantly after giving birth compared to the pregnancy period, and should basically drop to a normal non-pregnant state around 6 weeks after giving birth. Overweight before pregnancy, high-energy diet during the puerperal period, sitting for a long time, and sleep loss are factors that affect postpartum weight retention, and one year after delivery is a critical period for weight control.

First, start breastfeeding as soon as possible after delivery, start breastfeeding within 1 hour after delivery, and insist on breastfeeding until the baby is 2 years old, which is very important in preventing weight retention after delivery.

Secondly, moderate exercise can be performed 6 weeks after delivery, such as walking, jogging, plank , etc., which can gradually increase from 15 minutes per day to 45 minutes per day. 4-5 times a week to form a pattern.

It is worth noting that mothers do not have to be too anxious about weight problems. Unreasonable diet control and excessive intensity exercise are not conducive to milk secretion or physical recovery. If you don't know how to manage weight in during the puerperal period, or want to lose weight scientifically after the lactation period is over, it is recommended to consult a specialist.
