Four Peaches
Text/Li Taizhong
This morning I went to the fruit stall at the entrance of the community to buy peaches. I saw a sanitation worker asking the fruit stall owner for a rotten peach to eat. The fruit stall owner took a damaged peach from the basket and gave it to the sanitation worker. The worker, the sanitation worker wiped the peach on his clothes and ate it hungrily. I couldn't bear it, so I quickly took out 4 big peaches from the peaches I bought and handed them to the sanitation workers. I saw a younger sanitation worker not far away and asked him to give two peaches to another companion. The sanitation workers kept saying thank you. A scene suddenly flashed in my mind. If I hadn't gotten rid of rural life because I was a soldier, this sanitation worker might be me who came to work in the city from the countryside. If everyone can change chairs and sit down when something happens, acts of kindness to others will happen spontaneously. If you help others when you can, and if you can help others, don't do it for the sake of kindness, then our society will be full of sunshine everywhere.
This summer is extremely hot, and the property management company staff on duty at the gate of the community are working very hard. When my boss, Mr. Liu, bought watermelons, he did not forget to bring some watermelons to the doormen on duty to thank them for their hard work and dedication in serving the community. The doorman is also very kind to us. The doorman helps us deliver our express delivery to our home. This means that if you give me a foot, I will give you a foot. This is how good interpersonal relationships are established. Boss Liu's kindness was inherited from his mother-in-law. At that time, his mother-in-law was well-known as a good person at the Baoji Lankong Dry Rest Home. She would help anyone whose family was in trouble. Boss Liu inherited her mother-in-law's kindness. Last year, I went back to my hometown, Mengzhou, , and wanted to treat the elderly people in the village who were over 80 years old to a meal and give them red envelopes. Elderly people over 80 years old will receive 2,000 yuan, those over 90 years old will receive 3,000 yuan, and those over 100 years old will receive 4,000 yuan to repay the folks for their care of our family when I was in the military. There is not a centenarian in the village, only one 90-year-old, and more than 20 people over 80 years old. This event requires about 60,000 yuan. I was afraid that Boss Liu would not agree. But after I told her, she completely agreed and decided to go back to my hometown with me to complete the matter. This incident had a great response in our village, and the villagers all praised me for marrying a kind-hearted wife.
Kindness is contagious, which is why those who are close to kindness are also kind. My mother-in-law infected Mr. Liu, and Mr. Liu infected me and my children. The baton of kindness will be passed down from generation to generation in our family.
