At the Samsung developer conference held in the early morning of this morning, Samsung announced in-depth cooperation with Google to enhance the collaborative work between SmartThings and Google Home applications. The cooperation between the two parties is that under the Matter standard, Android users' smart home applications will be able to automatically share controls on smart home devices.

SmartThings and Google Home can currently integrate with many of the same devices and services, but require the two applications to be set up manually. For example, if you want to add Philips Hue to Home and SmartThings, you need to link your account twice.

In the coming weeks, Google Home and SmartThings will launch a multi-admin feature that will eliminate this requirement for both app users. If you have a Matter device set up in one application, you can add it to another application with one click. The process is not fully automatic, as the user can choose whether to add the device to each corresponding smart home application.

Samsung explains

When users enter the SmartThings app, they will receive a reminder to show Matter devices that have been bound to Google Home, and they can choose to easily join these devices to SmartThings and vice versa. Now, whether users want to control their smart home on their SmartThings app or on Google Nest Hub, these devices will always be there. Users don’t have to manually add each device at once, nor do they have to worry about which ecosystem their device is set on first.

Matter will be launched later this year. Earlier this month, the Connection Standards Alliance announced the Matter 1.0 specification, and Google confirmed the upcoming updates to better support Matter devices through its Google Nest speaker and smart display ecosystem.
