On September 30th local time in the United States, Tesla held the 2022 AI Day event in Palo Alto, California. Tesla CEO O Elon Musk and Tesla engineer team appeared at the venue, bringing the world's first debut of the Tesla Bot humanoid robot "Optimus" prototype, and taking the lead in the "next generation" of technology.
In addition, Tesla has also announced the latest progress on FSD (full autonomous driving capability) and Dojo supercomputers. At present, Tesla has conducted FSD Beta system testing on more than 160,000 cars and trained 75,000 neural network models in just one year.
"Today is the first time we have shown Tesla Bot to the world. Are you ready?" In Musk's voice, the Optimus prototype made a big debut, turning around, stopping, waving greetings and other smooth movements aroused the audience's cheers.
This is the first time Optimus is walking independently without anyone operating. Tesla did not install a shell for it, but directly presented the internal structure. Joints, bones, cables and other equipment are clearly visible, and each action details are visualized. Tesla also shows the real-life use scenarios of Optimus in the video. In the office, it flexibly lifts the kettle to water the flowers, transports the materials with both hands to the target position, accurately locates the surrounding people and actively avoids them. According to media reports, Optimus in Tesla's Fremont factory has begun to work in simple work and has planned corresponding action routes for it.
After AI Day last year, Tesla Bot quickly moved from one concept to reality in just 6 months.
At present, Optimus can complete movements such as walking, going up stairs, squatting, and picking objects. The flexible hands benefit from reasonable finger joint settings, and the flexibility and strength are excellent. The actuator can not only withstand heavy objects like a piano weighing about half a ton, but also can complete high-precision movements such as light and thin objects grabbing, operating mechanical devices, and complex gestures.
