MOD can usually make the game more attractive and immersive. NVIDIA is now introducing a new technology that makes it easier to enable modern features such as ray tracing in classic games. , the technology, called RTX Remix, can bring modern visual effects to old games released decades ago.
With the RTX Remix platform, MOD makers can recreate games more easily and add ray tracing to DirectX 8/9 games. Classic games created with this tool can significantly improve texture and lighting effects, or can be optimized by calling NVIDIA DLSS (Deep Learning Supersampling).
NVIDIA's RTX Remix can re-render elements in the game and support fixed function graphics pipelines. Specifically, the platform will intercept draw calls and reinterpret the game assets and convert them into a universal scene description (USD). NVIDIA claims that these newly converted assets should work with popular game development applications such as Adobe Substance 3D Painter, Autodesk Maya, 3ds Max, Blender, SideFX Houdini and Unreal Engine.
Games decades ago generally lacked the large amount of components and data required for ray tracing. NVIDIA RTX Remix allows users to add physically based rendering materials, normal maps, and added geometric details. These add-ons are able to "react" to artificial lighting conditions in the game. Mod makers can also add some extra lighting effects or adjust existing data to add ray tracing shadows, ambient occlusion, reflections, and global lighting.
