There was a scholar named Cao Luqing somewhere. In October of the year when he was young, he got sick and was a little serious. In order to recover from the illness, he lay in bed for five or six days.
One day, Cao Luqing fell asleep again and had a dream.
In my dream, Cao Luqing went to the street west of the county seat (the administrative center of the ancient county town, which was the county magistrate or the county magistrate's residence), and someone kept calling his name behind him.
Cao Luqing looked back and found that he didn't know that person. When he asked the man, the man said that he had come to invite Cao Luqing after being ordered by the Duke. Cao Luqing asked him what happened and who the mansion was, and then he would know after he said that. Cao Luqing looked carefully at the clothes of the person and felt that he was like a minor official in the yamen.
At this time, Cao Luqing's uncle, Cao Yongzhang, came. He was worried that something would happen, so he said to the little official: "I'll go with my nephew, how about it?" The little official did not refuse and nodded in agreement.
On the way, Cao Luqing vaguely noticed something and asked the little official: "I heard that the god of the City God Temple was Yang Gong before, but now it is not him. Who did City God God ?"
said as he walked, "It is Yuan Gong of Eastern Han ."
uncle and nephew followed the little official and walked forward, but saw the moonlight along the way, and the surroundings were full of yin energy. The houses on both sides were closed, but there were a string of paper money hanging on the lintel of the house, which was very strange. I walked five or six miles like this, and the houses I saw were like this.
Soon, I came to a wilderness, walked a few hundred steps, and saw an extremely tall city from afar, with two gates to the south. The two walked forward, Cao Yongzhang knocked on the door, and someone came to open the door.
After opening the door, the person who opened the door asked them to walk eastward and the two continued to walk. After walking again for a while, both of them were exhausted and leaning against the threshold of a house, they planned to sit inside. When I saw that there were more than a dozen people in front of the house, either tied up with ropes, locked on their necks with chains, standing or sitting. They were all prisoners; and behind the house, there were cattle, sheep, pigs and other animals, stuffed.
The two of them had no choice but to sit outside the threshold.
At this time, the prisoners in the room reached out and asked them for things. The cattle, sheep and pigs also came to smell them and bit their feet for some reason.
Cao Yongzhang and Cao Luqing were shocked, and someone next to him shouted, "Don't be rude to others. You will give you what you need."
After a while, the yamen officials came out to send a message and took the documents to them. Cao Luqing suddenly realized that they were dead, and now they were just souls.
The minor official also said, "You father and son (uncle of the same clan, called the follower father in ancient times, so the two could be called father and son together) used to make a guarantee for others. Now that person is unwilling to pay, so the official asked you to testify, don't be afraid."
When he arrived at the official official's yamen, a private official in black came with a booklet, talking nonstop. Cao Luqing couldn't hear it very clearly, but he vaguely understood it, knowing that this little official was asking for favors, that is, money. The clerk in front of
quickly said, "Yes, yes, don't worry, you can just come to my house to get it in two days." After hearing this, the clerk in black left with satisfaction.
Cao Luqing guessed that this little official should have asked the little official in black to do his business. The little official in black to help him finish the work, so he asked for money.
The yamen has opened, and many poor people are wearing short clothes and barefoot, as if they are going to complain, so they all come around. The minor official was furious and scolded them for leaving. The people were afraid and they all left. However, Cao Luqing found that a wisp of black smoke appeared on the wall and slowly dissipated.
At this time, the sound of being promoted from the church came from inside, and it was obvious that the Fujun had begun to handle the case. However, it seemed that the torture was being used inside. The beaten man screamed so hard that he cried to death, which sounded very cruel.
After a while, a small official came out inside and said to Cao Yongzhang and Cao Luqing: "You don't need to be arrested, he has told the truth."
At this time, the yamen runner inside took out a prisoner, and the prisoner's hair was messy, almost covering his face.He covered his chest with one hand and touched his back with the other. It turned out that an iron chain passed through his chest and his hands were also penetrated by the iron chain and nailed to the back of the chest. The prisoner looked in pain, and it seemed that he was talking about this person.
The case was tried, and the people in front of the Fujun Office dispersed, and the surroundings were quiet for a while.
Cao Luqing always felt it was very strange, and now he only understands these weird things. Since it was okay, he became curious, so he quietly went inside and looked around. Here, there are three halls and many things on both sides of the corridors, such as shoulder (the sedan chair carried by the shoulder), raising a sign (a sign with the words "silence, avoidance, etc.), sticks ( water and fire sticks , etc., ceremonial equipment), and the same as the yamen in the world.
Walk a few more steps in, and Cao Luqing found that his uncle Zhou Zijian was actually here. Zhou Zijian recognized Cao Luqing and couldn't help asking, "Nephew, are you here to testify?" The two of them told each other about the situation. Cao Luqing only realized that the little official said just now that someone asked for debts, and the creditor refers to his uncle.
Zhou Zijian is actually Cao Luqing's uncle. He also has an uncle, Zhou Zijian's brother. He just died not long ago. Cao Luqing wanted to see him, so he asked his uncle if he was here.
Zhou Zijian said: "Brother is indeed here, but I can't bear to see him, so as not to be sad." Cao Luqing thought that it was true, so he no longer thought about visiting his uncle.
was just talking when the minor official in front came and said, "I asked you to go back, why are you still here? Come with me."
So, Cao Yongzhang, Zhou Zijian and Cao Luqing followed the minor official and saw a large pool in front of them, surrounded by bricks and stones. There was a road in the middle of the pool, with stones connected to the leaves. When walking on it, it did not shake at all, and it was very stable.
was wondering, Cao Luqing suddenly fell into the water, and there seemed to be a vortex in the water, and it kept spinning.
Cao Luqing turned dizzy and suddenly found that there were many lotus flowers on the shore, and the lotus was shining brightly, as if it was lotus lantern . There are many lotus lanterns, thousands of them, which keep flashing and illuminating, and are uncertain. The lotus lanterns were actually moving and slowly walked away. At this time, Cao Luqing suddenly ran aground and could not see anything.
Cao Luqing suddenly felt cold on his body. When he looked again, he was actually in the Yudai River behind the county seat. At this time, the moon sets west and it is already the fifth day.
The three of them left the river, Cao Yongzhang and Cao Luqing sent Zhou Zijian out of the north gate, then came back, said goodbye, and went home each. Cao Luqing woke up immediately when he arrived at home. He lay on the bed, looking at the moon, thinking about the things in his dreams, as if he was hallucinating.
After dawn, Cao Luqing found that his illness was cured.
The story ends here. After reading it, what exactly should this story be said? To be honest, I don't know either, I guess there may be two points.
One of the things is that after a person dies, the debt cannot disappear, and the money you owe others cannot be repaid. Even if you go to the underworld, you still have to pay back the money. There are gods who are three feet tall. If you want to lose your head, I’m sorry, there are gods who will deal with you. For example, City God God can control those who owed debts.
The second is that the underworld is like the human world, and the yamen is a very terrible underworld. In order to handle a case, a large number of punishments must be used to try the case. After the prisoner confessed his guilt, he had to pass the iron chain through the chest and back, and his hands were nailed. As for those poor people, they don’t even think about seeking justice, and they are driven away by the minor officials.
In addition, it is also the same as the human world that the minor officials ask for favors and other things.
