In interpersonal communication, Jiangxi people often call them "cocks", and Jiangxi people are also happy to accept this title. Why is this? It turns out that there is a legend in it:

It is said that the rulers of Yuan Dynasty were cruel and rough, and the people hated it to the core. Zhu Yuanzhang, a native of Zhongli, Haozhou, launched an army to fight against the Yuan Dynasty, joined the rebel army Guo Zixing's troops, and soon became a famous general of the " Red Turban Army, ". One day, Zhu Yuanzhang suffered a great defeat in the battle with the Yuan army, was seriously injured, and fled to the Kangshan area in Jiangxi alone. When the people of Kangshan learned that he was the leader of the rebel army who opposed the Yuan Dynasty, they felt very sympathy for him, so they risked their lives to hide him in a cave, found herbs to cure his injuries, and took good food from home for him to eat and use. They also sent him local clothes and outfits for him to wear and dressed up as local people.
Zhu Yuanzhang quickly recovered his health because he was taken care of by the people. When he was about to leave his fellow villagers, he couldn't help but say very moved: "Thank you, fellow villagers, for saving me. Thank you, I will never forget this great kindness in the future!" After hearing this, the common people joked: "We saved you because you opposed the Yuan Dynasty and didn't do anything. However, if you become the emperor in the future, you may not recognize us ordinary people who have saved you, and it's useless to say thank you!" Zhu Yuanzhang heard this and said: "I Zhu Xingzong Zhu Guorui is not such a heartless person! If one day I can help you, just come to me! Let me see if I recognize you." The fellow villagers laughed again: "At that time, you lived in the palace, and we slowly said that we couldn't find the door. If we really found the door, how could the common people go in? Those who put the door must knock us away with a stick! You want us to find you like this, it's just a joke!" After saying that, everyone laughed loudly.

Zhu Yuanzhang took it seriously, and he said seriously: "It's okay! At that time, you will say that it was my Zhu Yuanzhang, Zhu Xingzong, Zhu Guorui's cousin coming to see you. Who dares to stop you?" After that, he left with the villagers in tears, and then climbed the war horse and disappeared in the sky.
Several years have passed, and in 1368, Zhu Yuanzhang really became a big climate. He ascended the throne of emperor in Jinling and became the founding emperor of Ming Dynasty . The people of Jiangxi were very happy to know about it, and it was a good story. However, no one wants to really look for him. What should I do with the emperor without any worries?
A few years later, Jiangxi suffered from a hard drought and rain, crops cannot be planted, and farmers have no food to eat. Especially on the ground in Jiangxi, the cracks in paddy fields are deeper and the rice particles are not harvested. However, the Zhu family dynasty still collected taxes in autumn and summer every year, and "force labor" was levied according to the ranks. The poor Jiangxi villagers were helpless and brave enough to go to the capital to find this "Zhu Lao Cousin". You can't say anything, Zhu Yuanzhang listened to the report of the eunuch at the palace and did not forget the villagers who saved him in trouble that year. He summoned representatives from Jiangxi in the palace, and carefully inquired about the disaster situation, and listened to the opinions and demands of the "cousin". Then, an imperial edict was issued to reduce taxes in the disaster area, and even "corps labor" was slowed down, which was a good thing for the people of Jiangxi.
So, since the Ming Dynasty, "Old Cousin" has become a synonym for Jiangxi people.
