In ancient times, there was a strange man in Lieshan. He was born in a stone cave in Lieshan, Niuta human body. Although his appearance is different from ordinary people, he is hardworking and brave, and when he grows up, he was elected as the leader of the army. By chance, he was inspired by the birds' species and invented agriculture. This invention has been of great help to mankind, so everyone gave him the name Shennong .
Later, people got sick, but at that time people didn't know how to treat it, so every time they got sick, they had to look at the "destiny" and let it die. As the leader of the army, Shennong was very troubled by this matter. So Shennong began to try to eat different grass to judge whether it could cure people’s diseases. During the process of tasting grass, Shennong was poisoned many times, thanks to tea to detoxify.
Once, Shennong's daughter was also sick. Shennong was very worried and grabbed twelve items such as bark and wild fruit to mix them into medicine. However, his daughter's stomach hurt even more after taking it. As a result, a bird was born. This little bird is spiritual, and Shennong named her Huaruiniao (Shennong's daughter is called Huarui). Later, Shennong brought the stamen birds when he tasted plants and fruits. He asked the stamen birds to try the things they picked and the ore they dug to judge their medicinal use and what diseases they could treat. Over time, Shennong confirmed the meridians of humans and wrote " Materia Medica ". Once, the flower stalk bird ate the full crown worm given by Shennong. Unexpectedly, the full crown worm was too toxic to break the intestines of the flower stalk bird. After the flower stamen bird died, Shennong continued to taste the herbs. Finally, one time, he accidentally ate heartbroken grass on Xiaobeiding and died.
In order to commemorate him, people called Xiaobeiding Shennong Temple and built a Shennong Temple.

There are several different versions about the reasons for "Shennong Tastes Hundred Herbs", but each version has more or less a slight connection with medicine. So where does the legend of "Shennong tastes hundreds of herbs" come from?
In terms of the relationship between "Shennong tastes hundreds of herbs" and traditional Chinese medicine, the earliest one to record this statement now is probably the " Huainan Zi " written by Liu An and his disciples. "Huainanzi" says that Shennong's tasted the taste of hundreds of herbs, sweet and bitter, and had encountered more than 70 poisons. In this way, Shennong distinguished which plants can be used as medicines for people to treat patients and which plants will kill people. With medicinal materials in this way, medicine began to emerge.
This incident is also mentioned in "History of the Road∙Waiji", saying that Shennong took the divine whip given to him by the Emperor of Heaven. With a wave of the whip, he could know which plants and trees were poisonous and which ones could be used as medicine. Later, these medicinal materials were used to treat the people's diseases. "Han Feizi·Five Worms" believes this about "Shennong Tastes Hundred Herbs". The book says that when Shennong and his people went out to find food, they slowly discovered that not all animals and plants could eat. Sometimes, after eating certain animals and plants, people will have symptoms of vomiting and coma, and in severe cases, it will lead to death. Sometimes certain animals and plants that eat can relieve some of the above symptoms or be beneficial to some diseases. Over time, more and more animals and plants could be distinguished, and they also knew their effects, which was becoming more and more beneficial to people's survival at that time.
