Looking back, from being unknown to becoming a household name, every step Dongguan Basketball takes forward is closely related to "people".

We have pioneering founders who are in the business world but care deeply about the basketball world. They have consolidated the soil for cultivating basketball talents and made the talk of "double championships in one city" famous all over the world. We have coaches who are wise and courageous and have achieved great success. Still fulfilling their duties and accompanying the team from dormancy to blooming, "the team with the most championships" is the best reward; we have athletes who do their best, who are brave enough to fight despite injuries, who use up their last bullets and never give up, who are heroic no matter whether they win or lose, and who fight to the end is the real result.

In order to thank this group of people for their contributions to Dongguan basketball over the years, the 2022 Dongguan Basketball City Culture Festival has selected the "Top Ten Contributors" of Dongguan Basketball through a selection event. South+ will successively launch a series of character manuscripts to tell their stories with Dongguan Basketball.

In 1997, Wang Shipeng, a 14-year-old Northeastern boy, was spotted by Zhang Zhenmin, the coach of the Guangdong Hongyuan Club at the time. So he said goodbye to his parents and came to Guangdong alone, thousands of miles away from home, to start his basketball career.

However, as a native of northern , the hot climate in Guangdong made him at a loss. When he first arrived at , the training base, he would often become dizzy from the heat after practicing for a few times, but his image as a "hard-working man" began to take shape from then on: "There is no other good way, just practice, and you will get used to it after practicing a few times."

In 1999, Wang Shipeng made his first appearance in the CBA competition on behalf of Hongyuan. When he first debuted, he mainly relied on his good breakthrough ability to gain a foothold in the team, but later he gradually developed the three-point shooting skill with a high shooting rate in the game, which also made Wang Shipeng the "King 7" that troubled all CBA teams.

In the 2003-2004 season, Guangdong Hongyuan and Bayi team met in the finals. Du Feng, Zhu Fangyu, Wang Shipeng, who were only in their early 20s at the time, and newcomer Yi Jianlian, who was less than 20 years old, won the first CBA championship for Guangdong Hongyuan from the "Iron Army" Bayi team that had dominated the Chinese basketball world for many years, and since then created the "Hongyuan Dynasty" with "eight championships in ten years".

In 2005, Wang Shipeng was selected for the first time into the Chinese men's basketball team coached by Yunus. Yunus told him that using his weight advantage is no longer the trend in current world basketball competitions, and he must lose weight. At that time, Wang Shipeng, who weighed 100 kilograms, achieved a degree of completion beyond everyone's imagination - in three months, he lost 15 kilograms.

During the World Championship , Yunus took Wang Shipeng and Zhu Fangyu to watch the forward shooting training of the world's top teams. It was during this period that Wang Shipeng's skills that later made him famous gradually matured, especially the fadeaway jumper. The comprehensive absorption of advanced technologies from Europe and the United States, coupled with Wang Shipeng's own high-intensity practice that has never stopped in his career, has allowed him to gradually stand out in domestic and international competitions.

Being broad-minded and observing, accumulating thick and thin, this may be a good description of Wang Shipeng's career.

If you want to evaluate what kind of player Wang Shipeng is, just looking at the data, he ranks fourth in three-pointers, 12th in steals, and 16th in assists in CBA history. At first glance, these are not top-notch results that make people exclaim as geniuses at a glance.

However, with his natural "big heart", many of Wang Shipeng's scores are unreplicable and precious.

In August 2006, Wang Shipeng went with the team to the World Championships in Japan. In the last round of the group stage, in the last 5.8 seconds of China's match against Slovenia , he used a buzzer-beating three-pointer to kill the opponent, allowing the Chinese team to qualify from the group and enter the semi-finals; 2010 January In January, in the Guangzhou Asian Games men's basketball semi-finals, China played against the Iranian team. He once again killed the opponent in the last 13 seconds, allowing the Chinese men's basketball team to reverse Iran and advance to the final...

After the glory, in June 2016, Wang Shipeng officially announced his retirement. But he did not become a member of the Guangdong Men's Basketball Team like Du Feng and Zhu Fangyu. Instead, he returned to his alma mater, Guangzhou Institute of Physical Education, as an associate professor, and led more "basketball seeds" to grow.At the same time, he also became a partner of Yi Jianlian's "Xinhuo Basketball Training Camp" and served as the head coach.

After years of hard work, "Xinhuo Basketball Training Camp" currently has more than 20 campuses across the country and more than 30,000 students in training. It has become a sports chain training institution with benchmark status and national influence, constantly delivering fresh blood to the Guangdong Men's Basketball Team.
