12 final match between Vietnam and Australia at home, the Mei Ting Stadium in Hanoi, Vietnam, which hosted the event, became the focus of heated discussions among the Vietnamese and Australian media and fans due to the "out of order" of the turf. The Australian media even unceremoniously described the site as a "cattle farm". For this reason, the Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Sports of Vietnam has promised to fund a rectification of the stadium lawn. On September 14, local time, some Vietnamese media revealed that the Haiphong club of the country had sent a letter to the Vietnam Football Association to bid for the next two top 12 home games of the Vietnam team. However, judging from the current situation, it is difficult for the Vietnam Football Association to respond to this request.
According to information from the Vietnamese media, Van Tran Hoan, Chairman of the Haiphong Club, wrote to the relevant departments of the Haiphong City Government on September 13, local time, to apply for the Haiphong Club to host the top 12 matches. The Vietnam team played two games at home against Saudi Arabia (November 16 this year) and China (February 1 next year). The application was also submitted to the Vietnam Football Association.
In the second round of the top 12 on September 7, the Vietnam team played against Australia at home. Both sides of the game were affected by the poor field conditions, and both played poorly. Therefore, the Haiphong Club submitted an application for the match.
The main stadium of the Haiphong Club, Lach Tray Stadium was built in 1957. It is named after the Lizhai River that flows through the Haiphong City and can accommodate 32,000 people. As Vietnam’s domestic league has been cancelled due to the epidemic this season, Haiphong Club took this opportunity to start the main stadium renovation project. With the generous donation of the local government and the personal funding of Fan Chenhong, the entire project is expected to be completed in October this year, which also gives the Haiphong Club some confidence in the bidding issue.
However, the probability of the Haiphong club's bid to be approved is not high. First of all, Hanoi My Ting Stadium has been the national stadium of Vietnam for many years. The Vietnam team's home games in recent years have also been arranged in this stadium. After the Vietnam and Australia games ended, the Vietnamese government has made a commitment to rectify the stadium.
There is another factor that cannot be ignored. That is, the Lizhai Stadium has been unable to pass the site fire safety certification issued by the local government fire department.It is reported that after the restart of the Vietnam League at the beginning of this year, the Haiphong City Police Department warned the club that Lek Chai Stadium failed to pass the fire safety inspection, so it could not obtain the relevant certification.
The Vietnamese media quoted the local police as saying that the stadium’s fire pump was installed independently and did not communicate with the stadium’s fire water supply system. In addition, the fire pump has malfunctioned from time to time and cannot operate. The two automatic fire alarms installed under the stadium B stand have also been in a state of failure. Once a fire occurs, the alarm procedure cannot be activated immediately. The automatic fire alarm system in Stand A is also not installed.
It is also understood that the stadium has not yet purchased fire insurance. In other words, this stadium still cannot meet the hardware conditions required to undertake major international football matches such as the top 12 matches .
It is worth noting that because the Vietnam League has not yet introduced VAR equipment, the Vietnam Football Association had to borrow the VAR equipment from AFC and install it in the Mi Ting Stadium in Hanoi. If these equipment are transferred to other stadiums, it will consume huge manpower, material resources, and financial resources. The Vietnam Football Association obviously does not want to endure this toss.
