December 28 is the 96th birthday of Mr. Xiong Douyin. As the first domestic scholar to comprehensively and systematically introduce Coubertin , he is a witness to the tortuous development of Chinese sports in China over the past century. He is also a sports worker who has directly participated in it and made arduous efforts and important contributions. He has won the New China Sports Pioneer Medal and the Sports Work Contribution Award.
His connection with sports came from the Helsinki Olympics
After Mr. Xiong Douyin graduated from the Economics Department of Aurora University Law School in 1950, he first worked at the Youth League Central Committee. Two years later, a unique opportunity of the times caused his life destiny to reverse. In 1952, on the eve of the opening of the Helsinki Olympics in Finland, the People's Republic of China decided to send a delegation to participate. Mr. Xiong Douyin joined in the preparation work, and he became associated with sports from then on.
In the spring of 1952, Xiong Douyin entered the All-China Sports Federation with a letter of introduction from the International Liaison Department of the Central Committee of the Communist Youth League, starting his journey of more than 70 years into the Chinese sports world.

Xiong Douyin's first job after entering the sports system was to clean up the information left by the All-China Sports Association to understand the history of China's relationship with the International Olympic Committee. During this process, while Xiong Douyin was familiar with the literature, he also communicated with the sports workers at the time, such as Ma John, Xia Xiang, Lin Qiwu, Mou Zuoyun, etc. The most important task was that Dong Shouyi, who was elected as a member of the International Olympic Committee in 1947, came to Beijing from Lanzhou University to fully intervene in matters related to China's preparations to participate in the Helsinki Olympics.
Xiong Douyin has had many face-to-face communications with Dong Shouyi since then, and learned about the International Olympic Committee from him, as well as the past relationship between Chinese sports and the International Olympic Committee. The book "International Olympics" written by Dong Shouyi has become an important reference book for Xiong Douyin and his young colleagues in preparing for the Helsinki Olympics.
On July 29, 1952, the Olympic delegation of the People's Republic of China raised the five-star red flag in the Helsinki Olympic Village.
Dedicated to sports foreign affairs reception work
In the summer of 1952, the first foreign delegation Xiong Douyin received at the All-China Sports Federation was the Polish men's and women's basketball team. This is a high-level delegation. Zhu De, He Long, Chen Yi and Xiao Hua all went to the temporary basketball court of Xiannongtan Stadium to watch the game in person.
In the winter of 1952, our country began to prepare to participate in the 1953 World Table Tennis Championships. The most urgent thing at this time was to translate the International Table Tennis Federation's charter. This task naturally fell on Xiong Douyin and his colleagues, which ultimately led to the first World Table Tennis Championships in the People's Republic of China.
After that, the National Sports Commission was formally established, and Xiong Douyin's international sports liaison group had even more arduous tasks. It received many foreign sports delegations such as the Soviet basketball team, the Soviet football team, the Soviet gymnastics team, Czechoslovakia and the Bulgarian men's and women's volleyball teams, the Yugoslav football team, the GDR weightlifting team, the Indian table tennis team, and the French Marseille university basketball team. In the process, he also fell in love with sports from the bottom of his heart.
Scientific Research Institute made a great contribution
1960. Xiong Douyin reported to the Beijing Sports Scientific Research Institute and was assigned to work as a researcher in the Information and Reference Room, engaged in French and English translation, and successively engaged in foreign table tennis and basketball research. He gave full play to his foreign language expertise and devoted himself to the collection, translation and research of sports information. From then on, he gradually transferred the knowledge accumulated in sports foreign affairs reception work and Olympic sports research into specific sports practice work.
In 1961, Beijing hosted the 26th World Table Tennis Championships, which was the first time the People's Republic of China hosted a single world table tennis championship. It was also the largest and most important international sports event for China at that time. After Rong Guotuan won the men's singles world championship at the 25th World Table Tennis Championships in 1959, China also hopes to achieve better results in Beijing. At that time, Japan was a world table tennis power. Three months before the opening of the 26th World Table Tennis Championships, Japan's main players such as Kimura, Hoshino and Miki swept across Europe and even defeated the Hungarian team, the world champion at the time. The media said that the Japanese team "played the world's magic ball." This situation quickly spread to the country and had a certain impact on the preparations of the Chinese table tennis team. At this special juncture, Xiong Douyin began to emerge. He formed a Japanese intelligence research team with a Japanese translator and an English translator. They collected all the table tennis magazines available at that time, including seven or eight types from Japan, Britain, France, and Hungary. After about 10 days of hard translation, I mastered the basic situation of the so-called "magic ball" in Japan. It was discovered that the so-called "magic ball" is a topspin loop ball . He also mastered the key points of holding the racket and hitting method, and gave it to the Chinese table tennis team for simulation training. As the Chinese table tennis team "ended Japan's history of dominating the world table tennis" at the 26th World Table Tennis Championships, the table tennis intelligence team composed of Xiong Douyin and others also received commendations. He Long specifically said: "This scientific research institute has made a great contribution."

From 1961 to 1965, Xiong Douyin concentrated on information collection, translation, and research on table tennis and basketball. He translated more than 1 million words of articles and wrote 8 weighty research reviews.
From 1974 to 1978, Xiong Douyin successively provided a number of comprehensive materials on foreign sports information to the National Sports Work Conference, and compiled "Some Situations of Foreign Youth Training", "Some Situations of Foreign Youth and Children's Sports", "High-Level Training and Reserve Force", etc. Long-term contribution to "Foreign Sports Trends" has also enabled Xiong Douyin to shift from micro sports information translation to macro sports research.
Structure of Sports Science System
In 1979, Xiong Douyin participated in the preparation for the establishment of the Scientific Research Office of the Sports Research Institute and began to engage in scientific research management. Since then, Xiong Douyin has had another specialized job in scientific research management in addition to sports intelligence and information compilation and even macro research. For a long time thereafter, he was directly involved in the construction of the sports science system.
In 1981, Xiong Douyin published "A Preliminary Study on the Sports Science System". Based on Qian Xuesen's scientific system theory, he designed and initially established the concept and framework of the sports science system. This was part of the nationwide scientific system construction work at that time and was also an earlier pioneering work in the field of sports. In 1983, Xiong Douyin published papers such as "Sports Science is a Comprehensive Science", "Sports Information and Sports Science", and "A Preliminary Discussion on my country's Sports Scientific Research System", and actively participated in the discussion of the attributes of sports science, which was a hot issue at the time. Subsequently, he and Lu Xianwu co-translated and published "Sports Vocabulary", which directly contributed to enriching and improving the knowledge system of sports science.
Compared with most sports scholars in China, Xiong Douyin does not work directly in any domestic university, but he officially holds part-time teaching positions in many units. Including China Association for Science and Technology , Yangzhou University , Hangzhou University, Chinese University of Hong Kong , Tianjin Institute of Physical Education , Beijing Normal University , etc.

He taught master's students in sports intelligence at the Sports Research Institute. In 1992, he was hired as a part-time professor at Yangzhou University. He also taught at Beijing Normal University. After his retirement, he gave academic lectures across the country. In 2000, at the age of 74, he began to serve as a doctoral tutor at China University of Technology. He said: "After I retired, I traveled almost 10,000 miles, from the three eastern provinces, through Beijing and Tianjin, then to Nanjing, Shanghai, Hangzhou, Wuhan, and finally to Nanchang for a national academic lecture tour. I stayed in one place for three days. I lectured for two and a half days. class, and held a discussion with everyone in the last half day. "
focuses on promoting Olympic culture
Xiong Douyin has been associated with the Olympics and sports since the Helsinki Olympics, and he has been committed to promoting Olympic culture in China.
In 1982, Xiong Douyin published "Coubertin and His "Ode to Sports"", which first introduced the classic sports document " Ode to Sports " in our country, and thus launched a series of Olympic research. He later participated in the writing of China's first national unified textbook for sports colleges and universities, " Olympic Movement ". According to him: This is the first Olympic sports textbook in the world. The then president of the International Olympic Committee, Samaranch, happily wrote a preface for each chapter of the textbook, saying that "without education, the Olympic movement will lose its meaning." He was also fortunate enough to meet Samaranch at the launch of the textbook.

He published a 600,000-word collection of essays "The Holy Fire is Burning" in December 2007. After seeing the table of contents and preface translated into English, the then President of the International Olympic Committee Rogge wrote back: "Professor Xiong, you have a deep understanding of Chinese sports and the Olympic movement, and hope to publish more articles."
Feeling about some of the current situation of Olympic education in our country, Xiong Douyin also published a 5,000-word paper "Persistence in Carrying out Olympic Education" in the 2020 issue of the "Journal of Physical Education". At this time, he was nearly 94 years old.
