Scientific researchers discovered new plant species in Yajiang County, Sichuan Province
Wuhan Botanical Garden, Chinese Academy of Sciences Hu Guangwan's research team discovered new plant species in Yajiang County, Ganzi Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture, Sichuan Province. The reporter learned from the Wuhan Botanical Garden of the Chinese Academy of Sciences on the 27th that a paper on the new species of orchidaceae, named "Yajiang Tonguebolan", has recently been published in the international academic journal Kew Bulletin.
It is reported that in August 2020, during the investigation of orchid plants in western Sichuan, researchers of Hu Guangwan's research team found a orchid plant with white flowers and pink spots in Yajiang County. The plants were short and the leaves were close to the ground. Since the plant was at the end of the flowering stage at that time, and there were few individuals who reproduced, researchers failed to identify it.
In July 2021, researchers from Hu Guangwan's research team went to the local area again and photographed individuals whose plant was in its peak flowering period, and there were many. Through morphology and molecular systems research, researchers finally confirmed that it is a new species of the genus genus 5 Orchidaceae .
According to the place name of this plant model, researchers named it "Yajiang Tonguebolan". This is the third new orchid species discovered in Sichuan after Hu Guangwan's research team published "Chinese Coral Orchid" and "Wolong No Pillar Orchid".
Orchidaceae plant expert and researcher at the Institute of Botany, Chinese Academy of Sciences, said that through field investigations and follow-up research, Hu Guangwan's research team successively discovered new orchidaceae plant species in Sichuan, further revealing the diversity and uniqueness of Sichuan orchidaceae plants. "They published this time is a relatively rare new species of orchidaceae."
According to experts from Hu Guangwan's research team, Yajiang orchid grows outside a village far away from the Gexigou National Nature Reserve in Sichuan, and its habitat is very easy to be damaged. Scientific researchers conducted surveys on orchid plant resources in other areas of Yajiang County, including Gexigou National Nature Reserve, and no other residential groups of Yajiang Tongue beaked orchid were found. Considering that this is the only group of Yajiang Tongji Orchid discovered so far, its habitat needs protection in urgent need of protection. (Xinhua News Agency)
