A few days ago, I posted a grandfather Qian Xuesen and Professor Wang Yongzhi, interesting stories about rocket launches.
The story is simple, but very intriguing.
On March 21, 1962, the "Span1span Dongfeng II" missile began its first test. "The tail section caught fire at 21 seconds, and the engine stopped working in about 25 seconds. The maximum flight altitude was 3456 meters, and it caught fire after 69 seconds." . This is the unforgettable failure of that generation of Chinese astronauts. "We are now surrounded by difficulties, and we must break a blood path." This is Qian Xuesen's true feelings about that failure.
In order to find the cause of the launch failure, Qian Xuesen repeatedly inspected the Gobi Desert, which was dry, hot, and lacking water. After two months of analysis and testing, the failure conclusion report was 76 pages long, and the reasons were large and small. In order to improve the design of "Dongfeng No. 2", Qian Xuesen would call relevant personnel to his home to study and solve problems almost every Sunday.
The redesigned "Dongfeng II" in June 1964 passed 17 large-scale ground tests, but just after the missile entered the launch site, an unexpected accident occurred. Due to the hot weather, the missile’s fuel tank suddenly could not hold the propellant that was scheduled to be refilled. Without fuel, the missile would not fly far, the launch could not be carried out, and the scene was once deadlocked.
Because of the hot weather, the volume density of the propellant becomes smaller, and the predetermined amount cannot be filled. There was an uproar from above and below.
At that time, the young Professor Wang made a bold suggestion to remove 600Kg of fuel. Many people laughed at him. The fuel is not enough, so he has to remove it. Isn't this a mess?
In the end, there was no other way, so I had to find Grandpa Qian Xuesen, and Grandpa Qian Xuesen gave the final word and followed the instructions of Prof. Wang Yongzhi .
As a result, four rounds in a row were sent successfully.
Can this be understood as a typical reverse thinking?
