In October, the autumn wind brings coolness, Osmanthus fragrance, the sky is high and the clouds are light, it is a good time to watch the star. October's "Starry Sky Theater" is also very exciting. In some parts of western my country, you can see an partial eclipse astronomical phenomenon, and Mercury Westward Distance and Orion Meteor Shower will also be staged one after another.
Mercury West Distance: The best time to observe Mercury
The most noteworthy astronomical phenomenon next week is the Mercury West Distance on October 9.
Because it is too close to the sun, Mercury is often observable in the sun's brilliance, with only a few short observation opportunities every year, thus becoming the most difficult to observe among the eight planets in the solar system of . Only when the angular distance between Mercury and the Sun reaches the maximum, that is, the "large distance", will the public have the most hope to witness Mercury.
Mercury is called " East-Dimension " to the east of the sun, and " West-Dimension " to the west of the sun. During the "East Great Distance", Mercury can be found above the western horizon at dusk; during the "East Great Distance", Mercury appears at a low altitude in the east at dawn.
This is the third and last time this astronomical phenomenon has appeared this year. This time, the West Mercury distance is the best observation conditions among the three times this year. The so-called "good" mainly depends on whether the horizon of Mercury is higher at sunrise.
Orion meteor shower: "Gift" from Halley's Comet
Orion meteor shower's mother Comet is the familiar Halley's Comet, which has scattered a large number of gravels and dust debris on its orbit. Every October, when the Earth passes through the fragments left by Halley's Comet, the Orion meteor shower arrives as scheduled.
Orion meteor shower radiation point is located on the northeast side of Orion near Gemini , and rose from the east of the northeast around October 22 at around 21:40 pm. Therefore, the best observation day for Orion meteor shower in 2022 is after about 22:00 on the evening of October 21, and the moon can be observed until 3:00 a.m. on the 22nd. At extremely large, ZHR (the number of meteors that can be seen per hour when the radiation point is directly above the head under ideal observation conditions) is about 20. Others can also be observed at nights such as October 19, 20, 22 and 23.

In addition, there are two small meteor showers that have reached or approached the extreme period recently. One is the huge Draco meteor shower on October 9, and the other is the huge South Taurus meteor shower on October 10. However, since it happened to be full moon, it was very unfavorable to observe the meteor shower, and the number of meteors that could be observed would be greatly reduced.
partial eclipse of solar eclipse: Watch the Tiangou "bite" the day
Beijing time on October 25, Beijing time, in western Asia, Europe, and northeastern Africa, people can see a partial eclipse of solar eclipse.
Although most parts of my country are not affected by this partial solar eclipse, if you are in or are about to travel to some parts of Xinjiang, Tibet, Qinghai and western Gansu, then you still have the opportunity to enjoy the "eating sunset", that is, the sun sets in solar eclipse . Especially in Yili, Xinjiang, Aksu , Hotian , and Tibet Ali, the observation conditions are much better. You can see the process from the beginning of the solar eclipse to the most obstructed sun. The more west the observation position is, the longer the visible partial solar eclipse process, and the more north the position is, the larger the area where the sun can be seen is blocked.
partial eclipse refers to an astronomical phenomenon in which the moon moves between the earth and the sun, and the earth moves to the penumbra of the moon, and part of the earth happens to be covered by the penumbra outside the moon's shadow, and part of the sun seen in this area will be blocked by the moon.
This time, the initial loss of partial eclipse occurred at 16:58:20; eclipse occurred at 19:09; eclipse occurred at 19:09; eclipse was 0.862; 2:2 minutes and 16 seconds, the partial eclipse ended.
